Just thinking about this after the development of some airports in FSX Planner recently. I think it would be good to separate out the different aspects of the airports into different BGLs so that if some aspect is causing problems/conflicts it can be disabled. It also means if one aspect of the airport is changed (i.e. taxiway names/locations) then only one aspect has to be updated and released. For example: (ICAO Code_Type_Suffix_FSVersion.Bgl) AA_Facilities_FSX.Bgl- Contains all the AFCAD/FSXPlanner information- Runways, taxiways, parking for Auckland etc etc AA_Buildings_FSX.Bgl- Contains...

Are you a FSXer? If so. how about this: I spent sometime last night updating Whenuapai just using default methods (i.e. making things correct, no actual modelling yet) since the default airport isnt quite right- We will need a good base of Airport XMLs for this project that line up with their real world locations and that match what is actually there (i.e. taxiway names correct) I think a first step is to update all the airports that arent likely to be photomodelled with better versions using default objects- This should be possible for anyone to do using the tools below I used four main...

I'm not much help, I've never used SCASM, as it was pretty much obsolete by the time I got into scenery design. It was originally designed for FS5, and lost a lot of functionality with every new FS version through to FS2002. There is a SCASM website , though. By the way, FSX now at least allows leading zeros, but it still doesn't scale down some of the over-sized elements. The SDK includes some new features to to overcome the US-centric runways markings from previous versions: alternateThreshold Set to TRUE to indicate international rather than US Threshold markings. TRUE, FALSE...

QUOTE (creator2003 @ Mar 5 2008, 03:17 PM) Yeah go for it lawrie ,this will make some of the fs9ers happier ,you are welcome to use any of the objects ,and as for Hamilton you can go for that aswell if you plz , no point in making fs9ers hang out with such a sort amount of time left for them ,times are a ticking.. :P Ok Mike,.................. Im on to it for the FS9 versions of both. Yeah, the time is ticking for FS2004, think its probably got at least another 12 months of life left........................ Surprising how many simmers the world over are still using FS2002 !!...

I would like to have ago at 2002 polygon ground maybe just to lay a bit of grass down between the runways and taxi ways as im forever getting asked to do something with the ground , first of all am i on the right track or should i be doing something else ,or using something else to...

Hmm, I tried the star method last night without success. Will give it another go when I get the chance. The thing I got from reading about it is that it activates BOTH runways... which isn't necessarily what we want. I have another idea i might try too... Will keep you posted.

QUOTE (greaneyr @ Feb 9 2008, 07:46 PM) You got my attention now! Is this a way of exploiting the bug where runways sink into the ground? How far below the surface does the runway have to be in order for it to be invisible? I find that with a few GNZLAP AFCADs (Wellington and Invercargill to name a couple) I get this effect when using Christian's 76m mesh. However... the effect is only noticeable when you yourself are on the ground. Once you get into the air, the runway emerges from within the ground and is entirely visible... So I would have thought that would have been a...

QUOTE (Christian @ Feb 6 2008, 02:04 PM) What would be really cool would have actual 3D models placed for lighting and then small lightmaps on the ground around them (like X-Plane does). Not sure where to go with this though. I have lot's of cool modelling ideas, but I fear we're getting ahead of ourselves. Maybe what we need to do is to decide onto an airport which we'd like to improve and take it from there? Ie - not decide as a group, but if a subgroup of designers decides onto a project that would be a first step into some collaboration... Christian Well the idea...

I think the subheading to this forum kinda sums it up for me: An effort to collaborate all freeware New Zealand scenery addons Collaborate and freeware being the key words there.....All we are doing, initially at least, is to collaborate wat has been done into one install/central location.

Christian perhaps an "Introduction and flightsim CV" pinned topic would be appropriate for members active in this group, as some are less well-known under their forum "handle." It helps if you know your audience, and stops unnecessary "feeling out what you know and don't know" situations. It's partly addressed in another thread here what are people's skillsets and might be merged with that. Me: Charl du Toit, Auckland "Hardcore simmer" in Robin Corn's words Projects and interests: GNZLAP - the light AI for NZ which I've published,...

Everybody and his dog has had a go at the AFCADs. "My" ones generally have a hidden closed taxiway under the rwy to give a dirt edge. Feel free to do anything at all to them, the ones I listed are in the public domain. I expressly also listed the ones that are not. This includes stuff from disgruntled former contributors to GNZLAP.

QUOTE (Charl @ Jan 27 2008, 11:01 AM) Last time I looked, Christchurch had more existing models, and the highest density of FS scenery creators, than any other spot on planet earth. Any chance you guys can connect and divvy up the workload??? More vocal perhaps, but this is just to make up for the population imbalance between the islands:) Actually, about 90% of local developers have dropped out over the last three years. Ian and I work together to some extent, but since we don't use many of the same tools we are not much use to each other for large projects. I suspect that a...

My take on this is that we should try to get a photoreal background for airports from google earth. We should get away with artistic reuse since the area is small and modified (ie get the colours better, remove shadows etc). Doing big photoreal areas is probably more the scope of payware (although there are some freeware efforts). Once I start work on Roads & Rivers for FSX I'm doing something similar to Timmo, only using the recent 1:50,000 mapping, not the old landcover set. I had a play with this ages ago (before Timmo started his project) and I have to say the first results were...

QUOTE (toprob @ Jan 21 2008, 09:07 PM) Yes, but given that there'll need to be a compromise, I'd much rather have one fork in the road -- you choose between Christian's 75 metre, or his 20 metre. It may be possible for a designer who has the 20 metre mesh to test in both -- it's a simple matter to move the higher resolution mesh files out temporarily, I do it all the time -- and those who only have the 75 metre can have someone else test. The idea is to devise the best elevation which works for both. I've found its just as easy to switch the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX...

Cool stuff, thanks for organising this. Laurence, sorry to not having replied earlier to your offer. Glad you've been in contact with Andrew. If you can sort out how we upload stuff and how we keep an inventory, I'm going to upload some of my stuff.
