Welcome to the NZFF Screenshot Competition for February 2011.

This month's rules are as follows:

1) The screenshot must be from a Flight Simulator program (FS2004, FSX, X-Plane, etc), and the position of the shot must be somewhere over New Zealand territory.

2) The images must be jpg and size must be at least 1024 pixels wide and no wider than 1280 pixels -- A good free resizing program can be found Here. Please keep a high resolution version saved on your computer; the admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert into a site banner!

3) Images can be submitted from 1st until the28th February 2011, with only one entry of a single image per member. You can change your submission before the closing date if you want, just delete the old one and replace it with a new one (by using the edit button at the bottom of your post. Please don't post saying you have edited your original entry, as this creates unnecessary clutter).

4) Soon after the competition ends, a poll will open to decide who has the best image, and then the winner will have a cropped version of their image appear in the NZFF banner as well as receiving the prize for the month if we have one donated.

5) Editing is allowed to enhance your entry if you know how to do it. The more stunning your shots look the better!

6) This month's theme: “Crop Dusting or an Ag aircraft anywhere in New Zealandâ€￾ (competitors must state the Aircraft used IE; Dean’s Cresco or Mike Stone’s Air***k etc; and where in New Zealand they are.)

I ask all members to please patronize all our very generous prize sponsors.
We have another excellent prize for this month’s competition very generously donated by VertigoStudios.

For the winner of the February 2011 NZFF Screenshot competition the prize is a VertigoStudios product (download version) of their choice these are all FSX only products.

Check out the download software titles http://www.vertigostudios.co.uk/catalog/24

Thank you this month’s prize sponsor

Yes I did that specialty for you Marty seeing you have one that I sent you and was hoping you would put one in the comp as no one else is likely to be putting on in laugh.gif tongue.gif

Aahhh ... good one, Doug! thumbup1.gif thumbup1.gif thumbup1.gif

Maybe we should have made it a little harder this time - and restricted entries to Airtruks only laugh.gif (shudder .. what a thought!!!).

EDIT: Doug - you may want to mention Deane's other little "beauties" ... the Fletchers ...

*and* ... great prizes, BTW - congrats to whoever set those up thumbup1.gif

I uploaded the final version of the six Cresco's to Avsim last night. Hopefully it will be online soon. This final package has some improvements and tweaks that nobody will have yet. I'll put a message in the Announcements thread once the file is available. Cheers Deane

Crikey, Mike ... that's a helluva shot to kick off the comp with! thumbup1.gif

The Cresco looks to me like the agricultural equivalent of the A-10 laugh.gif ... sort of "looks the business" ...

For someone who's never crossed the equator, I believe this is the South Central Region and the Agcat is originally by Marcel DuPlessis, modified for FSX by Karel Donk.

Great shot, Olderndirt! thumbup1.gif

Uncle Doug ... could we clarify the rules a bit, d'you think? It says screenshots should be from a flight sim, then says editing is allowed ... ie. collages of fsim pics + real pics are OK (as the one above).

I've always stuck to screenshots from within FS *only* ... maybe that's why I never win laugh.gif :lol laugh.gif

I'm not criticising OND's shot (I love it!) ... but maybe we need to specifically say that real+sim collage/edits *are* allowed?

And I agree wholeheartedly. Substituting a photograph for FS scenery often presents a prettier picture and may not make for a level playing field. Personally, I'm just happy to churn them out and not necessarily compete.

I think we've had these sort of discussions before (in screencomp topics). I don't think it matters one way or another - so long as it's covered in the guidelines at the top winkyy.gif

Been chating on teamspeak with Doug and Ian about the screen and when I put it in I justifyed it by saying the the plane is FSX so it follows the rules. Ian, Doug and I say its fine and there is no problem. Its sort of like this one

There's really nothing to suggest that a technique like this gives anyone an advantage -- in fact the opposite is true, generally heavily edited screenshots have less of a show, I think because some people will normally reject heavy editing when they come to vote.

This is a time-tested technique for FS screenshots, and encourages creativity. However as I said, it is rare that a screenshot + photo entry wins. There have been some exceptions, but they needed to be -- and were -- brilliant... (while I was typing this kc made my point!)
