The NZFF July 2016 Screenshot Competition has now Closed

Welcome to the NZFF July 2016 Screenshot Competition.

This month's rules are as follows (Please read them).
If you have any queries about the rules please PM me for clarification before posting your entry.

1) The screenshot image must consist of a screen captured from a Flight Simulator program (FS2004, FSX or P3D) and the position of the shot must be from somewhere within the New Zealand territory.

2) Some editing is allowed (if you know how to do it.) Additional images - either screenshots or "real" images can be added - but the main component of the image should always be of a Flight sim screen capture.

3) The images must be jpg and size must be at least 1024 pixels wide and no wider than 1280 pixels --
3a) No frames or txt to be left on the image. Please keep a high resolution version saved on your computer; the admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert into a site banner!

4) Images can be submitted from July 1st until midnight 31st July 2016, with only one entry of a single image per member.
You can change your image anytime up until 1 hour before the closing time.
To change use the edit button at the bottom of your post, just delete the old one and replace it with a new one If you post comments using the quote or reply button please edit out all images from your reply or quote.

5) Soon after the competition ends, a poll will open for members to decide who has the best image, and then the winner will have a cropped version of their image appear in the NZFF banner as well as receiving the prize for the month.

6) This month's theme: “GLIDER SOARING” (Please state Aircraft details and over which part of New Zealand the image was taken)

Big D ... need to clear up a few points re this comp:

Is this restricted to gliders ?

Will any aircraft gliding count ? as apposed to a purpose built type ?

Put this way Marty, the US airways A320 that crashed in the Hudson River NY was all sense a 65 ton glider ! for 6 minutes

The Air Canada Gimby glider was a Boeing 767 after running out off fuel back in 1986 , another one

Hey, I'm a big fan of 'interpreting' the theme, so if you want to go in a different direction, go for it! Maybe if you tossed all the passengers out, and ditched the fuel you could get a bit of lift out of the A320...

Me thinks its pretty clear that "soar" is the key word here , and by definition.... "maintain height in the air without flapping wings or using engine power."
And to break it down even further .... the word maintain , sums it up . Yes , the Air Canada 767 did glide (but didn't maintain) the space shuttle also becomes a glider ... but cant maintain that state .

Big D , sorry to question your choice , but i just needed 100% clarity ....and now i do .

You can blame Adam he supplied the theme for this comp he suggested Soaring as the theme and I suggested putting Glider in front of it so we wouldn't get some bright spark using a propeller for sawing wood

Just to show it *can* be done in P3Dv3, here's my entry to kick things off with:



Mount Cook Maule Orion as tow aircraft. The AI pilot duly smacked straight into Mount Cook 10 minutes later (I think he was texting). Thank goodness this is only a sim, eh?

Nice one Bob , that is something that happened years was being buzzed by a sailplane ... No BS we really had to dive for cover simply to keep our heads on .. this up on the Canterbury Port Hills at Allandale were the hang gliders took off from ... the gilders were regulars using the ridge ... that is a memorable day, then Wigram close and the fun went away.

HOKAY , ya want Gliding and Soaring .. HOKI DOKI ! .. rip in over Christchurch at over 700 Knots (I wish) Plug those burners in and UP .. return trip to earth we had enough speed and energy to ..... 'REPEAT PLEASE' .. I did come in on the airport a little hot , but NO engines and 3.5 Km off runway dictated that was how I'm 'was' incoming

Maybe worth mentioning that - for the sake of a screenshot - using SLEW is always an option, so you don't have to rely on thermals etc.

It's more fun learning how to find thermals and wave lift. I have Cumulus X and my own Percival Provost and DH Chipmunk towplanes. Once I learn how to drive the Pirat I will try some more of Wolfgang's models.
