Well they'd need alot of investment from someone then after that they'd still need a publisher. Plus imagine how big the engine is, and how much they've learnt over 25 years. Loosing all the code would be a very large hitch, mainly because all their work arounds etc they would've lost. However, it could still be done.

Real Environment Professional at avsim isn't too bad if you want something for free. Searching "water" at avsim, and sorting by downloads brings up some other good freeware choices.

I believe, it comes from the differences of the two era. A very good example for that would be the flight planning. Back in the 50's, the ONLY relevant thing was time. The flight looked like this : 1/3 part climb, 1/3 part cruise and 1/3 part descent. They had an "average" speed for the flight (usually 0.77 X economy cruise speed as per manual). On the basis of this speed they calculated the ETA for every navigational point (ADF's and VOR's) they pass. If they were late or early more then 15%, they adjusted the power settings to one "level" up or down. These...

If it's built into the 3D model, then I don't think there is any way of just masking it up, however, if you're willing to try a different design, download the one of the Project Opensky 737NG series- it includes with eyebrow and without variants.
