Cowpatz and Deeknow, Thanks for your kind answers. Cowpatz, I do not want to spend $$$$ on maps Deeknow, you have hit in the nail with great find for PERFECT FREE MAP website showing me specific names of beaches, rivers, mountains, lakes, etc etc in northmost area of North Island of New Zealand. Now I can match map locations to my screenshots!! Once again, thanks to both of you for kind answers. Regards, Aharon

My last flight sim build was by PBTech and updated a couple of times since then. Not really simming right now; lost a bit of interest since a) I stopped flying IRL and b) started paragliding IRL. Even so, I have my eyes on the new HP Reverb G2 VR later this year. I have quite a bit of hardware on my sim as the original use case was like you ... 'trying out' real flights (in Waikato area) before doing them for real ... and circuit training. If you can't get VR, then do yourself a solid and get TrackIR instead ... and pedals (mine, unfortunately, are currently broke; rudder is fine, but the r/h...

FS98 ???????? Ah, yes, the last great sim of the twentieth century... My memory of the various developments in NZ elevation data is kind of cloudy -- the first major advancement was Christian Stock's 150m and 40m meshes for FS2002 and FS2004? FSX didn't get a useful (as in matching topography features and airport elevations) 20 metre mesh until VLC, and then later Orbx NZ. Of course if you can afford Orbx NZ then that would be the way to go for FSX, but the now free VLC is still a major improvement over default FSX, especially if you are coming from FS98!

I've used Virtual Reality Rental before; they're really good. Graham has me down (I hope) as the first customer for a week on the G2 and I'm looking forward to trying it out. Part of me hopes that this VR headset now meets my expectations for resolution and clarity, and part of me (the part that looks after the $$$) doesn't !! :) Having said that, the price isn't *too* far out of reach with a little saving, but there are multiple conflicting 'projects' for available dollars right now (I have my paragliding license and kit, but I'm keen to convert to paramotor).

Yes the MSFS auto-gen tree trunks in the foreground definitely are in-need of some kiwi pruning. Agree that what is seen at the moment is a poor rendition of the background largely due to being the Bing Map Aerial satellite image map used in the interpolation over lay process showing the other side of Sheerdown Peak which has more of a pronounced curved snow basin. This would not be seen from the approach angle path. You would only see the barren steep drop side of Sheerdown Peak. As can be seen when comparing the Bing Map imagery through Earth View Map 3D it shows just how poor a state the...

does anyone know if this still supports Opencockpits and the FSUIPC coding to run it. i.e. for physical coding of instruments etc? cheers It's to early to say at this stage based off the Feedback Snapshot, it looks like Peripherals Support is currently a top Alpha Issue and it is also one of the most requested items that flight sim enthusiast's like yourself are asking for as it's consistently on the top wish list for Peripherals / Support for Advance Setups along with 3rd Party Content / SDK It's quite likely we won't know anything until around mid - late July 2020 after Beta closed testing...

I now understand why the reaction to v5 is so split. It really seems that older cards (especially with less VRAM) just don't seem to display the sim properly at all - even when persuaded to run without crashing. Newer cards are able to show the new DX12 GFX rendering functions well - and those people are full of praise. Sadly, I'm not sure that there's an "in-between" ... you really are forced into an expensive upgrade if you want to run P3Dv5 at all well. Adam. Yes I'm in this category as well. I was hoping my GTX Titan GPU would have got me through on V5 at least until MS2020 came...

The only way to cure the pesky "Norton" problem is to "try" and completely uninstall it, and all its files! I had to format my hard drive to get rid of it completely many, many years ago. ...and they had the audacity to request money to be able to use it!... ...! The most annoying program to ever be installed on a computer.... ...! There are lots of excellent freeware anti-virus programs out there...AVG, etc... :D ...! Paul.... :wink2: ...!

That is a remarkable video, for me not so much the multi-player features, but the way they've shown the world -- yes, a lot of that was NZ, so we get a much more useful look at what we can expect flying around the southern lakes, for instance, and dropping into fields for lunch:) I was thinking that the lead-in shots of the taxiing aircraft were maybe part of the same flight, but for the life of my I can't figure out where it could be, with those sealed taxiways and all the trees bordering the runway... I agree I've also been trying to figure out where the lead-in shots of the taxiing...

Been watching the Warbirds Over Wanaka Covid-19 updates Given that it was scheduled in 4 weeks, I expected this to happen when news broke about self isolation over the weekend. Organisers had indicated in the Covid 19 updates that they expected to attract approx 5000 international visitors in bound and had stated prior that if the Government Rules intervened they would refund ticket holders.

That is a ridiculous amount for a single person, but I guess I'd manage... I have three kids, and I'd enlist them all to decide what to do with it. I suspect that sitting on it for some time would be the best bet. All I need is a couple of million to build my dream house, and give me a good lifestyle for the few years I have left. I chose the section a long time ago, it is only $230,000, but with unlimited funds I could buy the adjoining sections to prevent my house being built out. I have a house plan in my head, evolved over a long, long time. The main features are a living area which opens...
