Central Otago - brown now, brown every summer, brown every spring, brown every autumn, brown every winter damn it's even brown in the dark! Seriously feel for those places that aren't used to it and especially the farmers. We get it all the time so are used to it, we average about 380mm rain a year where auckland city manages 1200mm annually.

QUOTE (Charl @ Jan 31 2008, 03:26 PM) If you release an FS9 product, you are likely to get 30% more takers than for the FSX option. Not a bad conclusion if you are talking about freeware. However I interpret it a little differently:) First, given that FSX is only just 'finished' it it in the same position as FS2004 a few months after it was released -- and shows about the same takeup. However within a year of FS2004's release it has grabbed about 80% of the 'market'. So by the end of this year, most of group B would have moved to C or D, and half of group A would...

QUOTE (greaneyr @ Jan 23 2008, 12:48 AM) The poll is missing an option in my opinion. I personally don't play FSX at all because I don't own it. I'm in this category right now, but plan to get a new computer next month and buy FSX then. I couldnt even run the demo on my present rig.

I used the aicarrier program from AVsim and I also discovered that a fleet follows a route from Norfolk Naval shipyard and travels somewhere then turns around and comes back after a few days. Quite amazing but they still need TACAN and ATC for the boats.

QUOTE (greaneyr @ Jan 4 2008, 10:53 AM) I wonder if it's the video card that's done it? My system used to run FS9 pretty 'average' at best when I was using an old GeForce 2 MX200 (32MB RAM and not directx 9 compatible). Now I've stuck in an FX 5200, I'm not only seeing things like reflective water textures, but I'm managing it with Autogen turned onto full, in 1280x1024, and at 25-30fps. Before i put that card in, I wouldn't have even considered FSX but after seeing how it goes with FS9 I'm rethinking. I do think processor and RAM might be my...

Well all fixed now and im running a new placement tool WHISPLACER found having used acouple of placement tools over my time this would have to be the best freeware design tool ive come across ,though ive also come in to a couple of problems with maybe sp2 , first of all i now for some reason have to go to the addon scenery library manager and delete the scenery folder "hamz2008" and then add it again before the scenery shows up again .. this i thought was different and you just had to rebuild the scenery data base ,im not sure 100% but im sure this was different before , anyway the...

QUOTE (Charl @ Dec 24 2007, 08:19 AM) This rings a bell for me - am I mistaken or is there buried in that SDK the ability to paint textures (runway for example) onto mesh? If so, then fs11 would have sloping runway capability built in hooray ! FSX already supports slopping runways theres one in one of the missions ;) .(that is if you mean landing up hill or taking off going downhill like a topdresser pilot)BTW I'm going to wait since I think Acceleration might appear in my christmas presents so I can wait 3 sleeps.

DME steps are step down changes in the enroute MSA ( minimum safe altitude ) as you get closer to a destination. So to use an example 20RO 4500 10RO 3600 means that once you are within 20DME of RO your MSA becomes 4500 feet and then within 10DME of RO it lowers again to 3600 feet. the distance is a DME measure in nm - remember that a DME distance is straight line ie 'slant distance' Once you are cleared to a lower level you will usually be told either "descend to 4000ft radar terrain" if the radar controller is taking the responsibility for terrain avoidance using a special...

QUOTE (G-HEVN @ Nov 22 2007, 01:13 PM) The problem if you install to C: and then move it to G: is that the registry entries will still point to your original install location, and so other addons will install to the wrong place (many addons now are using the registry data rather than assuming you've installed on C:) If you're going to uninstall/reinstall, why not install it properly on G:? That way everything will be correctly set. My FSX is on F: (as it happens), and nothing I've installed has failed to set up correctly. Yeah I think Ive come to that conclusion....
