This photo was taken today and the pilot is looking ahead as he is leading us. I quite liked the light in this shot. We got some great photos of this aircraft despite some less than average weather but when you gotta go you gotta go. This aircraft has been totally refurbished in Mandeville and is being delivered to an owner in Auckland, more on this machine later.

QUOTE (Ian Warren @ Sep 4 2008, 03:28 AM) Amazing to think, 1930s , many pioneers flew thousand and thousands of miles in this and types similar and today we take for granted , Thanks Gavin /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> yup my grandfather used to "unoffically" fly them in the islands on met recons during the war. he used to tell storys of pilots flying them backwards when the wind got strong enough, just had to make sure then wind wasn't going to die on you

Yer they are pretty loud. At the Searchlight Tattoo here just one did a flyover a few times as part of the show and wow /ohmy.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :o border= 0 alt= ohmy.gif /> I hadn't heard one for ages before that and I'd really forgotten how loud they were. It's a good loud though /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif />

QUOTE (mfraser @ Aug 11 2008, 01:37 PM) Judging by the quality of the shot and your website link I gather you must be a professional photographer! If so then you are one of the few lucky non-military types that gets to go on a flight such as that while the Sqn is on exercise! Exercise Blackbird was always one of my favourites as it is one of the most demanding environments a crew can fly in - changing winds, extreme weather, degraded aircraft performance and body numbing temperatures all combine to test aircrews to their limits. I always took solace in the knowledge that once...

Congratulations! /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> I notice you've started to upload to Jetphotos as well - I'll have to petition their staff to let me add more than 4 photos to the "photographer's choice" weekly selection, since pretty much every single one of your photos I'm going to want to nominate. /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif />
