QUOTE (PilotPom @ Jan 2 2011, 01:10 AM) The Navigraph data update which deeknow and Chairman mentioned... Do these update the nav data for the LDS 763 only, or for FS2004 also? Hey Alex. As Gary mentioned above you pay once for a single update (cycles are released monthly) and download databases for each aircraft you have (as many as you like). The LDS763 is one of dozens of machines you can download updated data for. There isnt one generic one to update FS2004 itself but there is one for the freeware VasFMC tool which you can use on default aircraft. Here's a list of supported...

QUOTE (gojozoom @ Dec 30 2010, 03:05 PM) Hi AllanJames, I think I can help you as I've been doing some research recently, before I bought what I've got now. A simple and easy answer : Cisco Linksys N (WRT120N). One doesn't have to work in the IT to know, that they are one of the best, and most serious network hardware vendor around. They just decided to give it a go on the small business/home market so they came up with this. It comes with or witout a built-in ADSL modem. I bought it in DickSmith . IMHO you should avoid Belkin routers, they are low-level, and heir...

QUOTE (Splitpin @ Dec 17 2010, 09:03 AM) That used to happen to me all the time "when on final aproach, a forest of autogen trees appeared on the runway ".....now i have medication for it /rolleyes.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= rolleyes.gif />....or maybe it was the other way around.... /blink.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= blink.gif /> The reason, I suppose, why you are on a Flight Sim forum, not an Airline Pilots forum. /biggrin.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :D border= 0 alt= biggrin.gif />

QUOTE (IslandBoy77 @ Dec 9 2010, 09:49 PM) Will the guys who quoted you the first system not quote you on a "lesser" one? Yes but he is not into FSX so does not know what would be the best to run FSX.

Perhaps you should just get the cat to sort it all for you, Ian. They're pretty smart - when they want to be... /tongue.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :P border= 0 alt= tongue.gif /> As we all know, dogs have owners, cats have staff. /biggrin.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :D border= 0 alt= biggrin.gif />

Yeah I think it's possible but haven't heard of anyone trying it. There are 2 ways of implementing a RAMDisk: apportioning a piece of your main RAM, or buying one of those RAM "hard drives" that have a built-in power supply. If you've got a heap of RAM - say 8GB or more - using a RAMDisk would be beneficial. How one would actually make it happen for FSX, though, I don't know. But certainly in theory one could get a substantial lift in performance by having stuff "pre-cached", if you like, for FSX to swap in to "main RAM" from the RAMDisk. Even the...

Interesting you talk about heat.. /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif /> I had a problem with both FS9 and FSX in the last couple of months. Both sims were fine in winter however (big clue!). So I checked my GPU and CPU chip temperatures. Both through the roof. The sims would run fine for about 5 minutes max, before frame rates really struggled. On the one hand I turned down my AA setting from "Super-sampling" to "combined" on Nhancer. That made a big difference to the workload of the graphics card (mine is low end now!)...

QUOTE (Charl @ Dec 3 2010, 09:59 AM) You may be using a non-original copy. Best to re-install from the original purchase installer. Yup that would be a good idea. If you don't want to reinstall though, have a look in your 'EFFECTS' folder and see if you have the fx_SF260_* lighting effects in there. If not, you can always just rename them to one of the default lighting effects.....

QUOTE (gojozoom @ Dec 2 2010, 09:15 AM) I forgot to mention that the idea is not mine, so the credit goes to those DIYflightsims guys. Regardless of the inspiration it takes motivation to actually get anything done!! All of our keyboards at work have custom function keys. If anyone wanted to take this idea a step further you could take this approach with printed custom keycaps. I don't know where in NZ you'd have it done (I could ask the techs at work if anyone was interested). I did find this link to an outfit in the states....... I'm thinking about making my own...

I've still got my FS'98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004...and FSX... But I concentrate on my trusty FS 2004, with all its fantastic Scenery, Mesh, etc, add-ons, including FS Navigator and LAGO FSE Scenery Enhancer design program. My ancient Computer runs them all fantastically...except FSX...because I reckon no matter how much money I throw at my Computer, FSX will never run as smoothly as my FS 2004 with all my sliders maxed-out, and all the boxes ticked! When I am in a really depressed mood I try FSX.. /sad.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :( border= 0 alt= sad.gif />....
