QUOTE You can install FS anywhere you like... when you run the installer you just change the directory... Interesting /winkyy.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= ;) border= 0 alt= winkyy.gif /> Didn't know that. Might have to pick one up so I can get more space for FS files /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> Thanks for the info.

Yip I think the ATI cards are much better than the Nvidia cards in the middle range, but I don't know about the high end. Fair enough if you want to stick with Nvidia as it's not like Nvidia make horrible graphics cards or anything. For a computer that will be used for lots of stuff, you might find that quad core would be more appropriate but for gaming there's nothing wrong with dual core. The best bit about going dual rather than quad is that you will get higher clock speed (which doesn't mean all that much).

I found K-Lite to be getting a bit bloaty and full of rubbish you did not really need... /dry.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= <_< border= 0 alt= dry.gif /> Personally I prefer the Combined Community Codec Pack ... CCCP... It will play anything you throw at it and is relatively small at around 6 or 7megs... also has Media Player Classic, which is nice and clean... unlike the bloat that is Windows Media Player...

Noted /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif /> Interestingly, having the AA box ticked in FS9 makes any AA that I've set using nHancer non-existent so maybe thats an 8800 only trick... Should have the extra 2gb ram installed by Friday too, which will no doubt give the whole system a boost /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif />

That is a bit of a pain, I've dealt with Saitek support a couple of times. They were a little slow (maybe 2 days before they got back to me), but they were helpful. /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> Alex

Hacked keyboards.... been there done that, now days there are so many cheap options which are way more practical, and don't impact on your normal keyboard operation. Leo's clever little board is just one example, there are a heap of others, which give heaps of power for a hand-full of bucks (which suits me!) SeanG

You should be able to set it up with the Saitek Software (at least it looks like I can with my software (w/ X52)). Just open up the profile (or create one), find/scroll the Throttle/s boxes on the right-hand side of the screen (it should be there unless they've changed it dramatically), open it up and create a new band. Then assign a keypress to that band (F2?), not the tidiest way perhaps, but free. /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> Alex

A lot of motherboards have onboard sound that is almost as good as many of the sound cards available. If you do want a sound card, then Creative makes some of the best in my opinion. The X-FI has a good reputation. I don't think a sound card is necessary, although if you spend a bit of money then you can certainly get excellent sound out of FS. Just make sure it has all the stuff you want, like if you want surround sound then check that it has surround sound output and stuff.

QUOTE (veryshort @ Jul 31 2008, 02:36 AM) Hi Jason , Your specs look good , my only concern would be the very low watt rating on your PSU { 430w ? } to run most of the lastest cards you need to be looking at around 550W plus ,they are power hungry .Im running a quad core 6600 overclocked { 2.4 } to 3.15 ,2Gigs of DDR800 ram ,a 8800GT graphics crad on a 550W PSU and it runs great Im not running vista { its cr@p ! } and Im not running FSX either I have tried it but it needs Vista to gain good performance as it didnt run the greatest on my set up and with the hlp of a few friends...

UPDATE . I Have managed to fix this problem. I reverted to my original sidewinder, ripped it to pieces, cleaned and regreased all the parts, and made a washer to kill the sloppy centre zone. A small description of the process can be found in my blog on this site along with a link to the full process. After a quick test in FS9 I found I was getting a whole lot more control than I have ever had. I'll be ripping my second sidewinder to pieces today - but I'm a little nervous about this as I do not have any instructionss for the process.

Actually I should have mentioned this, it seems to be mainly the textures that have the problem, taxiways/runway marking/custom trees/smaller text and details on aircraft etc. AA is already at 4x, any higher and I lose about 10fps, and mip settings ia at 4, where it's always been. I'm thinking maybe, new drivers and a new fs9.cfg file is my next option. EDIT: Downloaded and installed the new nvidia drivers (finally), and redone my settings in nhancer...Hasn't fixed the problem, but has made it heaps better, just a tiny shimmer, but hardly noticible. Only one airport still has a...
