Current scrap metal cost - about $NZ3000 ... Graham Bethell said it ... New Zealand have now become the scabs off the Pacific , my personal feeling is the No.75 history and for what it stood for should have been kept ! , Wigram , cut the knees off .. what would have happened if the Earthquake here in Christchurch was busy city time , all the rescue - police and would have gone to a higher state ..

Saw it flying again today, that V12 sounded lurrrrrrrrrrrvly! Apparently Doug's insurance won't allow him to fly it solo without a saftey pilot in the other seat, so there goes any hope of scoring a ride as pax! /sad.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :( border= 0 alt= sad.gif />

Steve , I questioned the crew off 'Connie' during the Avalon Airshow few years back bringing it to Wanaka , mention the cost would be over the top to fly the distance cost per passenger would have been 1,800 at the least and that,s if it rated to cross Tasman PAX flying .

Thanks happytraveller, more elbow room for the rest of us /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> I would imagine it is fairly difficult from ground level to visually judge the difference between one and three quarter kilometres (what they thought they had), and one and one quarter kilometres (what they actually had). From a 777 even the longer distance would look awfully short, and far from flying there often the crew had never been there before. I have a harder time believing that ~400 metres of unused runway and ~1100 metres of unused runway would be...

Some nice closeup spy-pics here (no doubt a quick thinking SFO ground crew member /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif />) of the damage to the Qantas RB211 ... Comforting to know really that they can survive damage like this without taking out the rest of the wing/aircraft

QUOTE (Adamski @ Aug 26 2010, 02:22 AM) One of my first flights was in an RAF Chipmunk (yes, I'm *that old*!!) ... and I flew over our house, then circled over over the allotment where dad was planting potatoes (like a true Polak!) - trying in vain to attract his attention. When I got home, I asked how the digging went - he said it would have been quite enjoyable if some pratt in a noisy aeroplane hadn't kept making a nuisance of himself!!! It certainly was weird - seeing those oh so familiar places from a totally different perspective. Don't know...

QUOTE (Peppermint @ Aug 24 2010, 08:24 PM) Well they sure didn't last long. i agree, one would have thought that they may have toughed it out until after next years rugby world cup, and judging only on pax numbers they seemed to be doing ok on most domestic flights (however SYD flights all had VERY low pax)
