I did one of these recently in Tauranga - they're definitely worthwhile. (as well as being a legal requirement for the issue of an instructor rating of course)

The press released mentions that it is a restored Meteor F8 and the deal was struck with Classic Jets Fighter Museum Adelaide and that their crew did some exceptional restoration work. It is currently being dismantled for transportation to Ashburton. The picture looks pretty good in the news article. i will keep the forum up to date when it arrives as i live not far from the airfield. Interesting that the engines of the NZ 6001 F3 still exist in separate NZ locations with other small parts.

Thanks for the input. As I found this quite an interesting account I also posted the question on PPRuNe: PPRuNe Link It's interesting to note that 'generally' the instructors and examiners on this forum, mainly UK based by the look of it, seem to disagree with the practice of "creating situations to try and fail people". There's certainly no right or wrong answer - I suppose it depends on ones personality as much as anything. I'll maintain that personally I think it's poor practice - if a student PPL candidate does something stupid, dangerous or illegal i.e....

Yep, the Taranaki chopper was purchased brand new in 2007 for $4.5 million - funded by donations from local organisations and the community themselves. It'd be a huge loss to lose the service, we just received a call from them tonight as part of their annual fundraising drive and gave what we could - but I suspect they will have a difficult road ahead to gather up enough cash for a replacement. Link: Stats on the current helicopter .

Geeze some of those photos bring back memories of wandering around the ramp at Queenstown in the 80s with the old man. Great aeroplane, would be neat to see some more here.

Thanks Richard for your reply. You have made very valid points and I have come to the same conclusion. Simply with a uni degree in aviation there is not much of a chance to get into aviation business. I asked many people who are working in the industry. They mentioned most of them never done any aviation degree before they join the airline. But airline sent them to few short courses and that was all they needed! QUOTE (greaneyr @ Jun 7 2010, 12:26 PM) Hi Ben Strikingly similar circumstance to you here. I work in IT and have a bachelors degree, and a few years back toyed with...

I watched this on the net on and off over the weekend as updates got posted. Mr Hall was a very luck man... Several pilots had close calls in the same place. Pulled too hard with the wind in the wrong place, stalling the machine. By the way... the final round of four flights are streamed live on the net if you are stuck in front of your pc at the right time of the day. Perth was streamed at 6pm on a Sunday night - pefect. Windsor streamed at 6am on Monday... not ideal...
