Zenbu is as good a place as any to start. Go to the listing for the airport / aerodrome (create an entry if there isn't one already), and down the left side of the page it will list a handful of the closest other entries then a link to show nearby entries - click on that and it will give you the 100 nearest entries. Wing fences and winglets serve two very *different* functions. Wing fences are used to inhibit the propagation of a stall, they help to stop the burbling and airflow separation that begins at the wing root and spreads towards the wingtips during incipient stalls. The basic idea here is to protect the effectiveness of the ailerons during very slow speed regimes. Winglets, on the other hand, exploit *high speed* aerodynamics. So just to be perfectly clear, one would never choose between wing fences or winglets. They each address very specific aerodynamic problems. alot of aircraft today still...

QUOTE (2fst4u @ Apr 28 2010, 04:59 PM) I only wish I had questions to ask but for some reason, I seem to be all sorted. That fact is rather unnerving haha! Back to news: Iroquois crash survivor told of colleagues' deaths Yikes. Imagine how horrible that would be. Hope the good man is back in action soon. No questions is good /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif /> you will be fine.....and yes, i hope the 4th guy is back on deck asap.....going to be hard for him i think.

I thought the initial report seemed just a little too dramatic to be likely. I suppose, unfortunately, the best way to get peoples' attention is to sensationalise stories as much as possible, even when they turn out to be completely factually incorrect.

Qantas only used this procedure in their B737-800s coming from Australia, as their domestic NZ service was operated by B734, which were not equipped. Air NZ have specially modified a 'few' of their 737-300s for the use of these procedures, and Air NZ had the first Airbus A320 fleet in the world certified for these RNP procedures. But the key to remember here, is not just that the aircraft that needs to be certified, but the flight crew also. From what I was told, the airlines are required to make a certain number of practice runs at these procedures, to demonstrate competence in good...

QUOTE (Kelburn @ Apr 22 2010, 08:41 PM) Yeah but the airlines would have paid almost nothing for these flights that didn't go ahead correct? THey didn't use the fuel on the flights that didn't fly so isn't it more of a refund? (Or am I seeing this wrong) Thats true Kelburn, but they also have expensive assets which are not generating income - every hour on the ground is money lost. I think the argument with the EU rules is that airlines have to fork out for accomodation as well. This is hugely controvertial especially where weather is concerned, the danger being...

I have lots of respect for controllers anywhere in the world, Their job is truly sophisticated and rewarding. So salute to your Craig ! Like everyone else, I say Scotty go for your dream, If you love to do something you will love it for life and no matter what other job you do , you never feel satisfied because you left your dream job behind. Like yourself I wanted to be a pilot, but I was told the salary is not good, it is a very hard work and etc , So I went into IT , but at age of 27 I am more determined than ever to find a way to get into aviation. Problem is I spent lots of money on...

That would be a great experience, You can feel the engine spooling up in your heart if you are on tarmac or even outside of airport. I flew around 6 times on tu-154( B and M ), twice on IL-62 and twice on IL-96 . The closest experience you can get is to have Project Tupolev 154M on your FS , It is free and one of the best ( and complex ) add-on to date.

From what I heard on the radio there has been a government reaction to that. Airlines collect all sorts of money, some of it is theirs (taxable income) and some of it is not (non-taxable non-income). In 'Merka 'money that has been collected for some unavoidable essential expense' (or something like that) is classed as non taxable income. It's done that way so that airlines can include things like airport charges in ticket prices - for our convenience of course - and only have to pay tax on the part of the ticket price that is actually income. And inevitably other things have...

QUOTE (Adamski @ Apr 16 2010, 04:19 PM) Wow - lucky fella!!! Makes you wonder about the flying conditions though ... Weather in Perth wasn't the best /smile.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :) border= 0 alt= smile.gif /> There is some good footage of the swim on youtube, and has been talked about a lot in the local rags. Though, surprisingly, no-one yet saying it should be axed. The Aviation Authority are going to investigate, but not that majorly, as they are happy with the safety aspects of the race. The team itself is also doing an investigation. What is...
