This one seems to be doing the rounds at the moment - pretty amazing video. Wonder what the co-pilot was thinking at the end? Probably checking whether the rest of the plane was still attached. /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif /> At least they stopped - seems to be an all too common theme in Africa that when this sort of thing happens they end up in the houses/market place/assorted other congested areas at the end of the runway.

QUOTE (HercFeend @ Oct 14 2008, 03:20 PM) Ouch... I guess I am a bit spoiled being in AKL... the doc is just down the road... and CTC are just a hop, skip and jump away in the 'Tron. I had heard there was an FAA doc down in CHC and figured they might have a JAR as well... guess not. As you say, probably not a bad idea skills/knowledge-wise to go through the NZ syllabus, just be warned that they are in the process of changing it all as they are aiming to move to computer based testing by the end of June 2009. This is the reason why they have not, as yet, released the exam...

With an airbus it wouldn't surprise me if it was a computer failure, it certainly wouldn't be the first time! However if it was i wouldn't imagine a wireless laptop would effect the aircraft's systems, especially not in that way. If not computer trouble i would guarantee it was clear air turbulence, at that height with the troposphere boundaries moving you could easily get wind shear if you crossed into a jet stream or passed through an inversion.

Personally I never saw anything wrong with the ATR72-500s in the first place! Granted, I wouldn't know the first thing about them compared to those who pay for their maintenance, mind you. Like dask, I would have liked to have seen jets into Palmy but would prefer it to be because our passenger numbers justify it, rather than us being handed a jet service on a plate along with all the other regional centres. Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch get their services because they deserve them. Likewise for Dunedin, Hamilton, Rotorua and Queenstown. It will be great, if the day ever...

This puts an end to any speculation on what theyare doing - Mount Cook will buy the ATRs they have on lease and wait until new 90 seat ATRs (completely new design), Q400Xs or other possible new turboprop a/c from Embraer are available later in the decade - so the current ATR-72s will be around for quite a while.

Don't know if anyone still wants to know about what Air NZs use for there cost Index... Anyway I went on a few 733s with Air NZ and asked what they used, The use a cost index of 35 on Domestic Flights. On International they use a cost Index of 20.

QUOTE (Naki @ Oct 4 2008, 08:05 PM) Looks cool - didn't know you could do this right here in Tauranga - not sure whether I am willing to give it a go - maybe the enclosed one. Whats a good Gyrocopter add on for flight sim?? - is there one? You can get some gyrocopter addons here type in the search bar gyro. theres quite few there for you to choose from.
