QUOTE (K5054NZ @ Aug 6 2008, 04:58 AM) Gav - whoa! I heard the Taylor had burst its banks but sheesh, this is not what I imagined! This.....I'm speechless, actually........looks as though I would've had a fun time down there - cushy by comparison here in Wanganui! How did everyone's favourite airfield fare? Omaka was fine, as it was blowing a hard southerly, over 40 knots at times some aircraft were moved away from hangar doors just in case. I was doing some work at the AHC and the big doors were banging loudly at times. it was rough for a while but no damage.

I received those photos ages ago when they were first released and believe they are real. If they were put through the photo chopper the person who did it would have done a better job, for example blurred props on the Hercules and photos more level in the frame and there are other things. I remember when the Classic Wings cover was released of the 7 Triplanes in formation and the editior and I received emails saying it must have been tampered with to get the aircraft looking like they appeared but it wasnt we just had a good day with good pilots. At first I was quite angry but looked at it as...

I have been through two intensive eye tests (6 & 7 months after having Lasik eye surgery). The fluid can be part of the glaucoma test, which as the picture above shows works on pressure, as in air is blown against the eyeball. You don't feel anything though. I also had fluid put in to dilate the pupils, that was uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards.... your eye cannot focus properly short distance so even using a cellphone or looking at your watch is near impossible, and the worse thing was walking out into the sunshine. It was so bright and even with sunglasses on my eyes were...

QUOTE (victor_alpha_charlie @ Jul 30 2008, 06:52 PM) What's so good about the Dubai one? As said before, Farnborough in the 1950-1970s would be the best. It's not really that the Dubai one is tons better than any of the others, for me it's that I quite want to go to Dubai anyway. Plus most airshows are good, so there can't be anything wrong with it.

It can be a crazy place that is for sure. Over the winter, there are as many as four jets plus an ATR on the ground at a time, plus all the milford traffic (anything from 10-15 fixed wing and numerous choppers) all day, plus our Pitts! Lot's of hold ups, I recall there being a few holdups but fantastic weather for it Charl! cheers

QUOTE (Anthony @ Jul 28 2008, 08:51 PM) As for Ryanair, they wouldn't be making a profit on that seat obviously but they would be making a profit on the flight overall. I'm not sure how they do it either, but it works. There.. fixed that for you... You dont think they sell an entire 737NG worth of $1 seats do you???? Obviously, the sell a few at ridiculously low prices... and make it up with the rest... much like the way you can get $100 one way fares across the tasman every now and again... the travellers who don't want "use it or lose it fare"...

QUOTE (chopper_nut @ Jul 26 2008, 09:16 PM) Heard through the grapevine that the fuel control unit on one engine malfunctioned and delivered full power on one side. The ground was wet, one wheel dug in and it went around. the assymetric thrust caused them to come off the side of the runway, obviously, but if say, the managed to keep it on the runway, they wouldnt have been able to stop in time anyway because of the power that engine was still producing. the ended up off the runway only 100mt from the end (contrary to what i said in the first post) which isnt that far off. I think...

Its under appeal at the moment and the indication is that the whole prcess for tendering will have to restart (in the meantime the very old KC-135s start to fall to bits).. so Airbus havent got it won yet.........

Yes that's very true. I suppose you could try having a huge fleet and running it point to point rather than a smaller one using the hub and spoke method. That would be expensive though and it wouldn't entirely change the issue. A bit of a no win situation I guess.

QUOTE (victor_alpha_charlie @ Jul 25 2008, 12:21 PM) All the Vincent flights made it in and out with no problems- just because one pilot reported windshear doesn't mean there actually was any. There were cases of planes making it in and taxiing to the gate before flying back to their departure point without letting passengers off, simply because there was nobody around prepared to take the bags off.. How annoyed would you be if you reached the arrival gate, only to have to fly all the way back to Taupo, for example, and be bussed down. Really, really annoyed. /pirate.gif style=...

Not really related on the surface but it could still be equally applied to crew resource management. This one comes up in a lot of admin areas: "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine". Next time you get handed a "ToDo ASAP" job, ask yourself if this quote applies and I think you'll be amazed at how many times the answer is 'yes'.

The description of the video is incorrect, the accident occurred in 2006, apparently as a result of a birdstrike. No one died. The people speaking in the video are the pilots. Edit - This version here has the correct description:
