I remember ages ago seeing the DHL 727 doing approaches and overshoots at Auckland with the gear up, which I think concerned some of the "spectators". Ironically about a week later it really did have to return to Auckland due to an issue with the landing gear, although clearly made an uneventful landing.

It was lucky no one was stepping out when that happened. Quite a long way to fall. It looks like one of the people stopped it but I'm sure it was the wind. /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif />

QUOTE (Peppermint @ Jun 29 2008, 01:00 AM) Probably a good reason why this hasn't been done, but what about somehow adding a few solar panels to an aircraft with a few more batteries to store the power, and use that to run some systems? Or would it add too much weight and not really help? Nothing yet matches the energy density found in hydrocarbons - been done though, and looks as awkward as the solar-powered cars. QUOTE Really, people knew that oil wouldn't last forever, I don't know something wasn't done further back about a replacement for when it gets to the stage...

Yer nice to see the 787 program progresing after the setbacks and delays its been through. /clapping.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= clapping.gif /> Must be close to flying time. I've heard that Alice Springs and a few other places in Australia are on the shortlist for flight testing.

Wow, I've never heard of these guys before. Thanks for the link, it made for some very interesting reading. I'll pass the site onto some friends and family and will try and flick them a few dollars when I have some spare. Also, it would be great to see some of their aircraft represented in FS on the Carenado 206 model for example. Does anyone know what area that airstrip from the landing video is in?

Turns out he did get to get off, have a walk around and have some food and drink at the airside part of the airport. He also saw the SIA A380 at Heathrow and has some photos that he'll send over to me when he gets internet access. Oh, and he also said he flew straight into LA past some brown islands (properly the Channel Islands of California) and then came into land straight over a beach- must have been either 7L/R or 6L/R, the opposite to your approach Alister. QUOTE Trolly we must have been in the same area and walking right past each other the other night. I was thinking that you...
