One time my Dad said he was landing at wellington into a souterly (rw16), unfortunately im not sure what type of plane it was but when they touched down they were already past the terminall and bear in mind that this was a while ago with the old terminal which was even furthur south than the current one  Last time I left Auckland for LA in a B744 we were fully loaded and i swaer that we used up every centermetre of that runway and then when we did get it off the ground it still seemed to struggle. (bloody Qantas :ph43r: ) DO ATR"s have autobrake settings? If so, that's easily...

There is also a medical reason why you dont spend too much time above 10,000 feet when flying vfr in an unpressurised aircraft, hypoxia. The highest I ever flew in a C172 was 12500 feet as we flew "past" Mt Cook on our way to Queenstown. Still plenty of rock above us and only took about 40 minutes to climb to that altitude! Mailman

Fantastic shots! That second one is really cool, especially how the skyhawk is just a black outline! Here is one I took at Avalon last year. Regards Mailman

from what i saw on the news, the fijian military commander took an ANZ 737 to NZAA then a FJI 747 to NFFN. whereas the fijian prime minister took the NZ air force's 757 direct to fiji.

I think Kinshasa Airways still have one flying passenger services in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There's also a VIP one owned by some religious figure in the USA, I think the company is registered as "Star Triple Seven". Edit - Here they are:

It's just so silly really... From Stuff Business News Flying with the big boys 26 November 2006 By GARRY SHEERAN You can bet on it - New Zealand will have a new regional airline soon, but it will not be called Kiwi Pacific. Nelson teenager Lamar Hargreaves' claim that he was starting a new passenger airline of that name next month is now being dismissed by industry players as a "near-hoax". I don't think anyone really took it seriously, but what suprises me is how the media are so quick to grab the news and print it (there was a write up in the BOP Times for example) as...

That is sad, it's been a relatively good period for air safety here for a while now, apart from that glider crash earlier this month.

THe Iroquois have only a three years left in service and will be replaced in 2009/10 by NH-90s whcih are a lot bigger and probably a lot quietier. The RNZAF is also getting smaller choppers - possibly Agusta A109s (twin engine) which would be ideal for SAS operations. Thse will partially replace the Iroquois and totally replace the Siouxs. When I was working in Auckland at the ASB Tower the Iroquios use (or still do) to use the pad on the roof for night operations on occasions. Cheers Paul

Cheers dude. Yeah, the 288 is a bit dodge - I used my girlfriend's red sudoku pen to do the insides. Not the best, I know. I may do it again if I can ever get around to doing customer decals. I'll be starting the Birdcage tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted with updates etc!
