What puzzles me is that the aircraft are leased from a range of lessors. Surely if the aircraft were all leased from one lessor, Air New Zealand would get a bulk discount rate and therefore a lower monthly lease rate for each aircraft? Does the reason that they don't have something to do with spreading around the risk?

Most of CTC's business comes from overseas anyway, so they don't really need to appeal to the local audience so to speak.

Car GPS navigators aren't handheld though, they're mounted and don't need to be touched while driving. I've seen plenty of imported taxi drivers programming them after passengers get in, before they start to drive /biggrin.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :D border= 0 alt= biggrin.gif /> Gods help them if they're using official maps, the navteq data that every seems to base things on is not the most up to date ...

QUOTE (Gavin Conroy @ Oct 22 2011,3:59 PM) This is the longest aircraft in Air New Zealand's fleet and it's believed it will be the largest ever commercial aircraft to sport an all black livery. Well aint that bloody great , possible chance to see one off our 777s in the evenings and what they do is go STEALTH mode on us /tongue.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= :P border= 0 alt= tongue.gif />

QUOTE (chopper_nut @ Oct 19 2011,5:24 PM) I hate flying on ATRs. The seats in them are terrible, if your over 5ft then your in trouble. Yeah I agree, the seats are odd, very upright. Hopefully the new models have a better seat.

QUOTE (FlyingKiwi @ Oct 16 2011,10:38 AM) That's not uncommon in air accidents - the nose area isn't always the first part to hit the ground, and the pilots are usually better restrained than the passengers. also adding , the terrain is also a large factor , so rugged in that area , cross a knoll and you survive , only that second counts

I saw it on approach to Whenuapai again this afternoon about 6PM as I was driving over the Harbour Bridge. No mistaking that shape!
