Hi Chopper Nut Thanks for the reply and advice. Unfortunately it's just not an option for me, same with PPL/CPL flying & theory I had to do it all part-time in the evenings or at weekends. I know there are plenty of people out there that have successfully completed a C-Cat part time and are now instructing so I know it 'can' be done. It's certainly not going to be easy street but then CPL part-time wasn't a holiday! Cheers

Apparently the nearest strip (probably private) is on Apes Rd at the West of the map in the low-res part. You can look up airstrips on Christian's map or using Koordinates: (2 strips shown in blue)

Yeah well I wouldn't want to compare a small show at an opening of terminal to the big ones like Wanaka & Classic Fighters. Whilst we dont have the big military shows like we had from the 50s to 80s (partly thanks to the break up of Anzus and demolition of the conbat force) we do have some of the best WW1 and WW2 warbird shows in the world ...Wanaka and Omaka are right up there. Also a show in Romania would draw on the resouces of other surrounding countries ...we aren't within easy distance of any country. The collection of WW1 (which Mr Jackson's collection of WW1 aircaft is...

I would be the first to admit that sometimes I am wrong, but I am happy to read the replies, both for and against. It is very good to have different opinions on a subject, in case I am wrong. I am not worried if the comments are sarcastic or against me, as I want to see what other people think. If 999 people agree and I am the odd one out, then there is a good chance that I am in the wrong. So let the debate continue!! I will step off my soap box now!! smooth landings.

QUOTE (Bazza @ Nov 11 2010, 07:54 PM) Possible scenarios, engine failure or inability of the plane to cope with the manouevre.....if so, why...? A full enquiry will look at all possible scenarios as to why the aircraft pitched up and stalled however it appears that the aircraft was at maximum certified T/O weight and that the CofG may have been too far aft. At a certain point the aircraft pitched up and exceeded the ability of the elevator to control. This was further exacerbated as the unrestrained pax slid rearward, meaning all control was lost, the aircraft then fully stalled,...

QUOTE (mechaneer @ Nov 4 2010, 11:20 PM) Is there a website around that combines all of the aviation events or events which contain aviation elements in NZ into a single calendar? I always seem to miss them by being in the wrong place when they occur (usually the wrong island), and it would be good to know in advance so I could possibly organise to attend some.....I have only just found out about the "armistice in cambridge" on this board which looks pretty interesting, but unfortunately I have a ferry booked to head back up north for the 16th! These are general lists...

I believe Wayne Mapp learned to fly at North Shore Aeroclub (his name is on the large list they have on the wall of people who have learned to fly there). I remember seeing him there a couple of times. Its good to hear that he can (apparently) fly a PAC 750XL.

I read the PED PDF & the article at New Scientist. The PED PDF seems to indicate that there IS a sufficient amount of anecdotal (non scientifically-tested) 'evidence' to back the claims of those that PED usage is an issue for aircraft on-board systems. The almost throw-away line from NS (as quoted above) would indicate that some sort of scientific testing and certification HAS been done / reached, although it doesn't specify if that is industry-wide, certain carriers, certain aircraft types or what. All in all, phone-home bombs aside, the whole issue still appears unresolved...

QUOTE (Charl @ Nov 3 2010, 02:36 PM) Maritime Patrol, and the Search part of SAR... these are functions for much smaller and cheaper unmanned vehicles. More correctly, Remotely Piloted Vehicles (which can loiter for many hours autonomously, too). When you find a target of interest, launch the expensive hardware to do stuff, like drop a life-raft, or kill it. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Nice in theory, but we are too small a Force to justify remote vehicles and then have other aircraft sitting waiting for an as required basis. The Orions (and 5 Squadron) have always been capable of...

A lucky escape......... such incidents are more common than you might think. Before the grass runway at NZHN was sealed, we would always see one or two pilots a year land in the rough, uneven lucerne either side of the runway!! Thankfully, like this incident, nothing serious apart from minor damage and wounded ego's!!
