QUOTE (Splitpin @ Oct 21 2010, 05:31 PM) Yes...that would be nice. I think they had one once, and traded it for something else, but dont quote me....someone will know. Thanks for looking Naki man /thumbup1.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= thumbup1.gif /> The museum / RNZAF were gifted a Corsair by the Disney corporation for their asistance in making the movie 'The Rescue' back in the 1980's. Unfortunately it was a very late model of the corsair - F4U-5N Korean war vintage. It would have been a waste of a good aircraft to try and convert it...

Having flown on a QantasLink Dash 8 Q-400 just recently, I can say it was a very very comfortable aircraft to fly on! Im quite skinny, but tall- the legroom was much better than a 737-300/400. However, the seat wasn't all that wide; possibly troublesome for a larger person. Sitting on the 2nd back row, it seemed very long, and its hard to imagine a stretched version- however I can certainly see a stretched version being used in the future on major trunk routes like Wellington-Auckland etc.

Yes, there have been a number. I noted this comment at the end of the article: "It said there had been a sharp rise in deaths and near-misses involving training aircraft in the past decade." I was wondering about this, and thought it would be interesting for those on NZFF who are either instructors, ATC or are in some other way very closely involved in civil aviation in NZ to comment. Do you think this is due to a decline in training, maintenance or lack of radar coverage? Or is it due more to just a much larger number of aircraft in the skies and people training?

I am not sure if the first of the new 777-300's will have that livery. Looking at a photo of the first one being assembled at Seattle the rudder is white. The rudders are painted (and balanced) prior to attachment to the fin. Looking at the video if it were to be in this All Black paint scheme then it would be painted predominately black. I would bet money on a whole new livery that is being kept under wraps. After all this aircraft will have an entirely new interior, uniforms and service delivery standard. It would be a logical time to change the livery too.

I am not a Controller but I can tell you the system is working well. Of course an aircraft must be transponder equipped to be "seen" however paraponts and hang-gliders are not. The very nature of the terrain there is always going to pose challenges that other airfields dont have. Of more concern at Queenstown is the lack of RESA (Runway end safety areas). In fact the airport company made things worse by placing a mound of earth at one end. If there is an under shoot or overrun then the risk of injury or death is significantly increased. A 146 had a major overrun there a few years...

QUOTE (Adamski @ Oct 8 2010, 12:29 AM) No measurements ... just put the Dak panel on a DHL courier to Auckland, please! I'm amazed at how complex some of these aircraft components are - even on a fairly "old" type. I mean - just look at all that "stuff" attached/half attached to the wing. Are there assembly diagrams for these things ... like in the old Airfix kits? /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif /> Yes there are....amazing detail on the plans....the drawings alone must have taken months to prepare....then...

QUOTE (happytraveller @ Oct 8 2010, 12:42 AM) Listening to the Live ATC on the net and found a link there to this site where you can see updated flight arrivals You can listen to live ATC on this link (just in case anybody does not know of it already) Nice to have this on in the background when flying, another step towards realism!! Smooth landings. Two great sites HT....Ive been looking and listining for a couple of years now....there is also a great one that tracks flights all over europe, with only a 5min delay.

QUOTE (Trev @ Oct 5 2010, 08:27 PM) Its a pity it will never fly. Such a waste of a zero houred engine. I remember when I worked there that the engine was sitting in storage next door, still with the original stores label still attached to it. Trev...i know what you mean...two of those guys spent about an hour in 2 store today, looking for 4 tiny little "original" screws (really, Mitre 10 would have them) ....its seems odd to me...150% restoration effort ....for static display. But i guess, if the price was right....they may fly it off to a new owner....who knows.

I think while the runway length is long enough, Daniel is right in saying it isn't stressed for the weight of a 75, nor would the apron would be I would say.

You only need bitta training to fly a hang glider based trike , in saying that it only takes a little mistake and even the winds aloft , Rick my brother flys a hanger and had many near ... Allandale , a well known ridge on the CHCH port hills (Bank Peninsular) Mid 1980 s , A New Zealander considered the worlds H/glider best perished - simply the wind caught him . Richard went out and brought himself a chute for himself after that .
