And they do it in real time, they must have brains like dolphins, that can sleep with one eye open... It's a great talent and with brains like that they would probably make excellent musicians and mathematicians - not to mention codebreakers. Bletchley Park loved to recruit people like this.

Marty, I was only three-and-a-bit in 1952, but the aircraft on display were ones I grew up with. One memory is hearing on the morning news that the Fairey Delta had set a new world speed record of 1140 mph. That made me want to be a test pilot  There is a passing reference to John Derry losing his life at the 1952 airshow, but of course the crash would not have been released for public viewing. This is what happened: I have an old book (published 1969) titled 'Aircrash Detective', about the evolution of air safety. The point is made there that from a crowd of over 100,000, only one...

Visually P3D is lacking and needs lots of add ons to raise that. However, the flight physics are much better than MSFS. Hopefully this will improve with 2024.

Cheers Marty, I did spend time admiring Foster's building, and you can verbalise at length the inputs and influences on the design. As to Part 4? Well you know this is my trip personal debrief I am dumping, and we've now seen the largely aeronautical/military side of it, which is already a stretch for our flightsim forum! There were other bucket list things, I will admit: Did you know that standing astride the Greenwich Prime Meridian**, your phone's GPS will not read 0 deg LONG **which by the way was moved several times, depending on where the Chief Astronomer of the day had his telescope!...

Yep, 1996 was the last time I was in the UK. The day before Hoof Proudfoot went in with the P-38. Hopefully I'll change that in the next couple of years. Got a Europe trip in a few months that'll tick off a few things.

Yes my pick might've been to just leave English Electric alone to get on with it! Always available for a little misty-eyed nostalgia, Nick, thanks for the reading pointer. I've also been advised to look up Antony Beevor and get Normandy out of my system by reading everything he had to say about WW2.

Great post Charl. I agree with you about Montgomery. His next mistake was Operation Market Garden. He thought that the operation would shorten the war. It didn't and was a very costly operation.[/quote The Market Garden plan was fine, it was the fact that the 1st Airborne landed on top of an SS Panzer division that just happened to be there. That and the Americans failing to secure Nijmegan so that XXX Corps could roll on through in a timely manner. The real error though was the fact that the Allies didn't attempt to push up through Holland earlier. Horrocks and his Corps were stopped from...
