Great post, Ian. I can remember the X-24B proving the concept in 1973... Some of us have lived through this entire epoch in space flight, a mind boggling programme, USD170 billion. "The most complicated machine ever built...", and when it does go wrong, it's a simple thermal tile. I'll never forget the feeling when Challenger rose and exploded in those twin smoke plumes, a real reminder that this was not really like catching a bus downtown. Sobering too, that a third of the fleet did not survive. But a gigantic feat of engineering and project management. I hope we get a...

Jet it up there with an Avro Vulcan and a Lancaster... that'd be priceless. I'd fly to London just to see it.

QUOTE (towerguy @ May 22 2010, 05:06 PM) I recognise that grey blanket from my stint '82-'83!!! was initially in H block before moving to 2 mess. You're probably right there - however, it looks like the one I had in a similar dump (Trentham 1960 Police Training School.) /angry.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= angry.gif />

You also need the ability to turn off "lock on road", so if you happened to be looking at any of the cheap older nuvis and thinking to yourself "hey, that has a battery ..." stop looking :-) Register on the gps society forum and when you see something you think will do the trick ask there, what those guys collectively don't know about how suitable any gps unit is for caching isn't worth knowing. There are etrex-H units on trademe for around $200, I know it's over your budget but the H series have the high sensitivity receiver (hence the H) and you...

QUOTE (Bazza @ May 15 2010, 11:53 AM) The obvious problem, as you mentioned in your original post is going to be the wing structures. Anything outside a small delta type section, IMHO is going to look pretty naff sticking out into the room sideways from the frame. Probably for this reason no-one else seems to be doing it. Possible solutions : Hang a pot-plant from the tip, Use it as a coat hanger. Sorry I can't be more constructive... /winkyy.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= ;) border= 0 alt= winkyy.gif /> /winkyy.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= ;) border= 0 alt=...

yeah its weird.. sometimes you get lucky and it just never says trial version, other times it says trioal version everytime you open the program. havent figured out what ive done different each time to make it happen. but yea +1 for winrar. 7zip is also good but i found it had less options (only find it out after youve been using it for a while so they are both ok)

QUOTE (NZ255 @ May 12 2010, 12:00 AM) So what the heck is it for? It s used to scare the birds away from airports /laugh.gif style= vertical-align:middle emoid= border= 0 alt= laugh.gif /> Nah! ... really - i believe it s used to test sensors on the wings in unaffected airflow , this was coupled with probe's which are coupled to the LEX stakes ,reason found it easier to graph the nose to coinside with a later XFS fighter program .

QUOTE (jastheace @ May 6 2010, 01:02 PM) Hi Guys, not sure if anyone else has seen this, but i watched it last night, was quite intresting, basically a team from northrop grumman built a model of the Horton H229 fighter. they built it full scale and with the same materials that the orginal was built to. it turns out that it wasn't completly stealthy, but it madea big difference, in the tune of only give the home chain radar that britian had only about 8 minutes warning that it was on it's way instead of the normal 45+ minutes, could have been a game changer if it had come in...

From the looks of them they are unmodified ex chopper. To turn these into jets (as opposed to turbo shafts, which they currently are) they will require new turbines and exhaust nozzles. I'd imagine you can double the asking price and then some !!
