A humble, humorous and articulate man. I loved his book "Carrying the Fire". Its one of the best descriptions of spaceflight, covering his early flying, then Gemini and Apollo missions. RIP Mike Collins, gone but never forgotten.

This image says it all... I spent more than a moment reflecting on what it means. We are so splendidly insulated in NZ from the terrible cold winds blowing in the world. Elizabeth II is a class act, and her relationship with HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, a model of Royal forbearance. She has balanced so carefully what should be a complete anachronism, with the changing demands of a fast-changing world. Wills and Kate totally Get It, which must be some consolation to the Queen. Well said Charl, that photo will go down in history. Sadly I thought I had recorded the whole thing.... but it appears I...

Cheers Big Guy .....they turn out some great stuff, but now and then they slip a bit ...says me  I downloaded their latest from Hong Kong and was a bit disappointed... a great selection of carriers, but, just messy somehow. I have a few DVD's, but mainly I buy them and view them on their Fluxplayer. With the older stuff, they allow one DVD burn, but not with the new stuff. Will catch up with thee deeknow.

Mike you are an early riser, by any measure! Charl, not usually at 0330 as today. I woke about 3am and by half-past I was sure I wasn't going to get back to sleep so I thought I may as well get up. I like to get up around daybreak, because you can get 4 or 5 hours of work in before it gets too hot. When I was commuting to Bris, I caught a bus at 0645 to connect with the 0730 train, so the alarm was set for 0445. It still is - I have left it there just for the pleasure of switching it off and going back to sleep.

They have to look after CC customers, because they are the Fatted Calf. Time is running out, many vendors charge you for the pleasure. And in truth the reason for having a CC isn't all that clear anymore.

Not sure what's going on here ...I've been expecting a funeral notice or something ...but nothing. I've had no comms from family members. So, I will leave it here ...with a clip I know he would have liked.

Ayee radar that man's voice makes my teeth itch. Let's cover it with this one, surely would have been fairly white-knuckle. It's entirely the wrong aircraft for the job.

There is some upgrades for airliners, some new tech including Auto Land and FBW. The pilots can actually see the runway even in CAT III conditions. The companies will have to go to the CIA in the United States of America in order to arrange the upgrade. It involves Mil-tech which is why installation has to be done in the United States of America but it makes the jet safer when flying....It also does one more thing, it counters turbulence. Boeing jets are getting them! :plane:

Crazy to think that 8 years ago it was broken up. Probably Budwieser into cans. What I struggle to head my head around is how these were perfectly good airframes (nil defects) when they touched down on the completion of their last flights. Flyable one day and parts/scrap the next. The accountants always win in the end. Thanks for the screens of RR powered NBT. :groupwave:
