Never got to Madang but I spent more than a year operating out of Tokua. The old Japanese and Rabaul airport is still recognizable despite being covered in ash. There is a Ki43 and a twin engined Japanese aeroplane (the designation escapes me) there as well as a 40mm anti aircraft mount. The museum just down the road has a lot of very interesting aeroplane bits in it.

It is stories like this and the people affected that must not be forgotten. There are still so many aviator fate. which will probably never be resolved. I immediately think of Nungesser and Coli, or Amelia Erhard, or the brave Roald Amundsen.

Excellent. The most enjoyable type rating on my licence. It was always nice hearing you guys come and go when Zac (K5054NZ) and I lived in Blenheim. A bit of a treat for propliner fans.
