Its a fine line whether I spend more on virtual a/c or real a/c ...............

I kind of know what you mean... although in my case its not so much actual aircraft as actual flying... at $140/hr (+20 for dual) it puts a little ding in the wallet...

but the weird thing is... I will think nothing of going flying for an hour and forking over $140... but will ummm and ahhhh over spending $30 buying scenery!!??

Wouldn't everyone be $100 plus because FS costs around $100?

Well, FSX Deluxe at least (I think standard is around $60-$80)

Well I just spent $200+ on New Zealand ninja.gif

I've had my FS9 for about 2.5 years now and the money spent on payware is in the thousands now blink.gif I don't bother keeping count because as long as it add's to my sim experience and to the fun that i have its money well spent.

The funniest thing about it is that when I started out with flightsim I thought to myself - whats the point of paying when you can get free a/c and stuff? - Now I have payware planes by most of the top developers in my hangar and won't settle for anything less. laugh.gif My first payware addon was German Airports 3 by Sim Wings because it included Hamburg Airport. Only then did the quality increase of good payware dawn on me. Since that dreaded day my wallet has never been the same again tongue.gif

Cheers

I have to say that apart from initial setups etc. more than $100 a year is outrageous. Unless it's like your job.

I have to say it depends on what your priorities and cashflow are like, I've spent probably over $100 so far this year - I don't think I'm outrageous - its definately not my job. rolleyes.gif

more than $100 a year is outrageous

when and if you ever buy payware you would know then what you have been missing out on all this time ..
instead of buying bullets and killing things or just wasting them in the air ,if you counted up the money youve fired out over the time you mite of had a gun "yours is sitting on some grassbed somewhere ,and ours "payware" is sitting in our hangers to be used over & over for years to come .
people spend money on hobbys lets face it , if i had a boy racer passion id be spending what i spend in a year of addons just getting a couple of sets of tires or mags etc , this goes with any hobby ,there will always be something else you will want or need .

This isnt my job ether ,i would love to have a job that was like this, but i have to work doing things i dont like making ,then after i decied its the end of my day i make stuff for fs..
i will never go out and get a licence for a aircraft "apart from if i won lotto rolleyes.gif " so spending $55 for a good addon that id never be able to fly is good money spent ,
its about Priorities at the end of the day like alex says ,yours are different to mine

I'm with the guys above. It's all about priorities. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, drive a fast car, buy dvds or music, and in summer bike to work. I'm not into real life flying, nor 4wds or jet skis or snowboarding or have an Xbox. Flight sim is my only hobby that really costs any money. It doesn't have to cost money, but I get so much enjoyment out of it so why not? I make a point to try and buy at least something each fortnight (I get paid once a fortnight) so it least I get some enjoyment out of my money instead of having it all go just to bills. Though I guess it should be said at this point that flightsim is my job... sort of.. I build flight simulators for Pacific Simulators here in CHCH. I used to play indoor cricket as well twice a week. That cost me $80 a month. So as you can see, spending $30 a month is cheap compared to that! A year of cricket costs $960 + travel by car + drinks at the bar + uniform. Spending just $30 a month getting a new addon once a month only costs $360 a year, and no other expenses like travel etc. $100 is far too low for a poll to be honest. That's about what I'll spend a month.

Yeah but hardly surprising Brennanx- you are but 15 years old, and I'm double that. You aren't even earning money yet, don't have a credit card yet, but it'll all come one day smile.gif
