Brett Collings

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby SeanG » Sun Nov 09, 2008 8:02 pm

Hi all,

I recieved some bad news today; Brett Collings, who many of you will know, or at least know of, passed away last night.
Brett has been a part of the New Zealand flightsim scene since the flightsim scene has existed here in NZ. He was one of the original group who got Kiwi's flying online using Squawkbox way back in FS6 days, and was instrumental in the creation of Common Shape Library which revolutionised our online flying experience.
Bretts death was sudden, and a shock to all of us who knew him, and he will be sorely missed, for his knowledge, his enhusiasm for this hobby we all share, but above all for his genuine friendship and sense of humour.

I spoke to Bretts partner Kari this afternoon, and said that I would pass on the news to the community as a whole.

Brett mate, we will miss you.

Sean

That is sad news. I knew him from my early Virtual Air New Zealand days. He knew more than anyone I knew about flying the heavies on long haul, and would fly across the Pacific daily. My thoughts are with his family Sean sad.gif

RIP Brett. The Kiwibiker Community also mourns Brett's passing, a nice guy by all accounts known as "Grubb" on the forum. Messages also here.

Best wishes to Kari

Wow, that's bad news. Jeeze, two fatalities in one day. Poor families.

Cripes its a small world aye, I've been a member over at kiwibiker for a couple of years or so, never imagined there'd be much cross-over to be honest between the two communities, just goes to show tho, you can meet like-minded people almost anywhere. A riding mate of mine just came off big time a few weeks back, lots of broken bones, has really made us all think a bit more about our own destiny and how much influence we might have over it

Very sad news indeed. I remember Brett from the SATCO days when I first got into online simming back in '98. He was one of a very small group of people who really drove online flight simming toward where it is today. A great guy with some amazing talents.

He will be missed.

Thanks for all the thoughts and wishes guys, I'll make sure Kari get to see them all.
It is pretty incredible the cross-over between the bike world and the simming/aviation world, makes you think don't it. I am sorry that Brett and I never got to ride together, he got back into bikes about the same time as I moved away. An opportunity missed is, as they say, an opportunity lost.

Sad news indeed and condolences to his loved ones. One of the original crowd when I first got into simming over a decade ago. He will indeed be missed.

Also my condolences to the family as well.

Us flight simmers are having a bad run - I note that Greg Pepper has also died - he made some wonderful aircraft includng the Convair that pops up here a lot (and one of my first FS downloads).
