r22 engine start up problem

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

im pretty sure im doing everything right, but when i try to start up the r22's engine following the checklist, i have then engine going in excess of 110 revs, then i engage the clutch (which is wierd, shouldnt it be disengage?) and the engine revs drop right down and stall. is there anything different i need to do? autostart works fine, and starting the engine with the clutch engaged (once again, wierd, by engaged i mean, the engine and rotor are connected, not disconnected by the clutch) work fine, its just when i try to do it properly, by starting the engine then letting the rotor connect that it stalls. does anyone else have this isssue?
