Flight1 AirtrafficFX

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Adamski » Sat May 30, 2009 2:48 am

I've just bought the 3.1 version of AirtrafficFX and must say I'm HUGELY disappointed.

As the default MSFS scenery for NZ is atrocious, I've invested a heap of money on add-on scenery (all of Robin's Godzone). However ....

1) AirtrafficFX AI aircraft insist on using the default MS AFCADs - so use the wrong runways and fly into hills. I have *freeware* AI traffic (WOAI) that uses all my add-on scenery and manages to avoid mountians. If a freeware app can do this, why can't a commercial add-on???

2) Version 3.1 is supposed to import add-on AFCADS, BGLs etc. but any attempt at updating the AirtrafficFX [scenery] database crashes the app, with a pretty unfriendly message - and no explanation. As most major airports in NZ are covered by my add-ons, AirtrafficFX is therefore useless to me.

If you want to set up a quick "in flight" formation pulled from your installed aircraft, then AirtrafficFX is OK ... sort of ... but it does it in a "live" FSX session. There are options for recording, but it's not very intuitive.

I must say, I was massively underwhelmed by Flight1's Ultimate Traffic (WOAI is *much* better and it's free) so I'm not sure how I talked myself into spending $40 NZ ... angry.gif

Heh! Well - I had a good old whinge on the Flight1 support forums - and JerryB got in touch, so we're going to have a play and see what the problems are. I'd love to see it all working, as it's a very simple little app to use (and not *too* expensive)!

I've had a bit more of a play with this one - and, while we're having a little bit of trouble importing airport data for ATC traffic, the "in-flight" formation utility is very easy - and works well.

You can't adjust the parameters (separation, height etc.) but it's pretty painless - all installed a/c being selectable from a drop-down. You can have up to 6 aircraft in a formation.

The above shot was hilarious - as my TCAS alert in the ATR went ballistic winkyy.gif

I hear only bad stuff from AI traffic addons. I just spend time and use PAI or WOAI

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Too true ... I bought Ultimate Traffic and replaced it fairly promptly with WOIA (which I love!).

However - for setting up a quick flight - or adding (temporary) parked aircraft for a screenshot, this little thing isn't too bad.

Long time ago (When Ultimate Traffic came out) I was in charge of the PAI package team. It was the same then as it is now, don't waste your money on payware AI Traffic, it never lives up to it's hype. Back then tho they basically just used PAI aircraft anyways lol...

Just spend the time and grap the afcads, flightplans and planes and do it the manual way. Far better results and much easier to keep track of
