Cheers too to you Island Boy, what a wealth of information.
You're welcome - I'm glad this thread has been educational for you lads. It's my way of helping to 'pay back' the simming community for all the many hours that those creating scenery (that I've not made the time to really get at yet, and may never fully) have donated to us all.

my apologies for not posting this in the tech section, certainly turned out more indepth than I anticipated.
Sorry, no. $1000 is just not enough for a simming rig or one that can be a passable basis for that. The best I could do would be $1630 incl GST (+ delivery to you - prob $20 or so) for a 4GB system with no screen, keyboard or mouse. It's specs would be:
AcBel R88 Power 80 PLUS Silver 600W PSU with Active PFC & 3 x +12v
Warranty: 5 Years
Foxconn ATX Tower Case
Warranty: 1 Year
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Warranty: n/a
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 Socket AM3 ATX AMD Motherboard
Warranty: 3 Years
AMD Phenom II X4 Processor Black Edition 955 3.2GHz AM3 8MB Cache
Warranty: 3 Years
Gigabyte GV-R577UD-1GD HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE2.0 Video Card
Warranty: 3 Years
4GB DDR3 1600MHz PC3 12800 CL9 RAM
Warranty: 10 Years
1TB 7200RPM 64MB Cache SATA3 HDD
Warranty: 3 Years
24x SATA DVD Writer & Rewriter
Warranty: 14 Months
A system like that has room to grow, having 4 slots on the motherboard (2 populated), a good PSU, a fair graphic card, a case big enough to house large graphics cards and a SATA3 / USB3 motherboard that will take an AMD 6-core & 16GB of RAM.Last edited by IslandBoy77 on Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:23 am, edited 1 time in total.

thanks again, will be in contact soon
Is it a TV, then? I've seen a client use a 32" TV for his sim, and I thought that the images were very coarse - partly because of the actual res not being HD, but partly because when blown up to the 32" size even the smallest 'jag' (not fully straight line or round circle) is accentuated. Have a lash & see if your eye is as particular about that as mine. If not, you're all good. If yes, a good 23" LCD monitor (not TV) is the way to go.
