Caravan stuff

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby gojozoom » Fri Mar 04, 2011 11:20 am

Hi guys,

cr@p weather is back in wellington, so I have more and more time to spend on FSX once again.

I purchased Carenado's Caravan, and I love everything about it, however, because of the HD textures my FPS goes down to about 15-17. As fluent graphics is one of my high priorities I'm looking for some options:

1.) Is it possible to "downgrade" external textures to 1024 X 1024?

2.) I started to use the default caravan for the time being, but the default version doesn't have any STOL capabilities, so I can't really use it for my bush flying. It also have some frustrating bugs. Is it possible to use Carenado's air file for the default FSX Caravan?

Any other suggestions?

Many Thanks
Dan

Sorry about that, it's sunny and 29 degrees in Christchurch. laugh.gif tongue.gif
But you don't have to live with the aftermath of an Earthquake.

easy enough to reduce textures down to 1024x1024, use probram called dxtbmp to open the files and to extract/save the alpha channel bmp,..reduce the desired bmp then re-apply the alpha and save as dds with alpha (im guessing that is what format theyre in ?).
If you arnt sure how to do it i could do it for you. I dont have the model but its easy enough to do the reduction. both models should be pretty similar except for their respective reference points which everything is measured from then its just a matter of getting the wheel footprint right. be easier to do the texture size reduction though biggrin.gif. Connor there is an old addage " if you don't have anything constructive to say.....",..while Welly has not suffered a terrible earthquake such as your beautiful city they have had earthquakes constantly with one measureing I think 4.3 or something close a day or so ago...albeit was fairly deep. That and many many people around New Zealand and abroad have all suffered through losing relatives and friends to this disaster..food for thought mate..a bit more thought before you post won't hurt... smile.gif
