FSX SP2

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

I have never installed FSX service pack 2. What does it do and is it worth installing? I don't have the accelerator either.
Thanks.

Service Pack 2
Microsoft released another service pack for Flight Simulator X about the same time as its expansion pack (Acceleration). The update is primarily for Vista users that have DirectX 10 (DX10) compatible graphics adapters. The DX10 version takes advantage of DX10's improved shader model and more pixel pipelines and increased performance for Vista, approaching overall FSX performance on XP. It also adds the capability for players who do not have the expansion pack to participate in multiplayer activities with users of the expansion pack, along with support for multi-core processors. FSX-SP2 also fixes some more bugs over Flight Simulator X. SP1 is not compatible with SP2 or Acceleration in Multiplayer. People with SP1 cannot enter a session with players who have SP2 or Acceleration in Multiplayer. According to the documentation you are required to install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2.

I've never used FSX without SP2 installed so cant comment beyond that.
Cheers

Here is the downoad link forFSX SP2
Acceleration is not a download, if that is that you are asking . It comes in its own DVD and you can get it from most gaming stores or Trade me. FSX gold included both FSX delux and acceleration. If you buy the acceleration DVD both FSX service pack are included.
Hope that helps

Hi,

This is about the only close thread I can find...

Didnt FSX SP2 require you to have DX10...?? or at least recommend it etc..???

Cant find any threads about the "Cant find language version" error when installing this one....Have tried the fix on MS web site ie fiddling with the Reg via RegEdit....but it wont work...

I was planning to update to it so I could install the "Cumulus" thermal flying addon..for more realistic thermals and slope flying...(I had run into this early on when I first installed FSX and it stopped me using FSX very much. Now I see that there are alot of very good addons/utilities for multi CPU's etc...

Thanks for any info...

Not required. Recommended only, but really the DX10 preview only works in Windows Vista or Windows 7, and from what I can gather, most people dont have DX10 preview mode on anyway as it causes problems with some add-ons.
Get SP2 purely for the improved FSX performance.

Hi Laurie welcome to NZFF DX10 preview only works in Windows Vista or Windows 7 and you do need SP2 or FSX Acceleration pack for it to work but if you are using DX10 you will need a program called ADDON CONVERTER X for aircraft that are not designed for DX10 other wise the aircraft textures of aircraft not designed for DX10 will come up as a blank gray aircraft with no colour.
DX10 does have some advantages you get slightly better frame rate and the graphics are slightly better but as I say you will need ADDON CONVERTER X if you are using older FS9, FS 2002 and AI aircraft that are not designed for DX10

Thanks Doug and Dean....that confirmed its worth installing SP2 for FSX....I think I will have to buy another one (FSX Gold I think) as I have packed away my FSX CD......as the Reg edit fix doesn't work for me on my PC setup....I still keep getting the English language error.....

Hi Doug/Dean,

FYI...I did go ahead and get FSX Gold Edition which also has the Accelerator add-on....btw it does include SP 1 and SP 2 in FSX already so I didnt have to do an update etc..

I bought it from the guys at FirstGames.co.nz here in Auckland and it arrived the next morning by (free) courier..they were a bit cheaper than VR Concepts btw....really good service!!...

During the install I chose "remove existing edition" and then had to re load the DVD to start the new install of FSX...once that was done (2 DVDs) I did the Acclerator install ok.!!!....

I fired it up and FSX ran really great as before...

As I am interested in sailplanes I have also now installed CumulusX! by Peter Lukens and got that running fine now and have much better thermals and ridge soaring...

BTW I have the sailplanes by Wolfgang Piper at http://www.virtualsoaring.org/flight/downl...s8_fs9_fsX.html

CumulusX! is at http://luerkens.homepage.t-online.de/peter/

Thanks!!

I really recommend FSX Gold Edition as it was very easy to install and didnt require me to install the SP1/2 patches....
