Anyone Using AES? And Another Addon Question

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Thats correct. Apparently it creates another buffer channel to preload textures etc that the CPU then can access readily ( I did have a link to a site that explained it better but cant find it anymore) Maybe Google "FSX and triple channel memory" and see what comes up.
Edit. have a look here

Okay, thanks heaps Brad63 - you are really helping here!

So somebody mentioned ATI cards don't make friends wih FSX? How big of a problem is this? Would I be better to get the Nvidia GT430 (that comes standard with the maachine), than upgrade to the ATI Radeon HD5830 for $100 extra?

So would 3x2 GB be better than 2x4 GB? Even though the first only has 6GB, and the latter has 8GB?

No, SB is only dual channel so your 2x4 GB is best, I think this is the fastest RAM you can find for SB in NZ http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecificati...x?ItemID=396908 I just got mine today biggrin.gif

If possible get a GTX460 or above but if not get the 430, or get the cheapest and then upgrade it yourself. A GT430 should still do better than ATI/AMD card

If I was to purchase another card I would go for the Nvidia as recommended by most experienced simmers ,FSX from most reviews prefers them over ATI. But Im happy with my HD5850 for the time being.
Also if you decide to go with dual channel get 2x4Gb

Apparently I can't get the Nvidia 460 becuase there is no 460 being made anymore - the closest I can get is the Nvidia GTX550ti. Is it good?

Yes that would be great, the next one up would be a 560TI and that would be Perfect.

It's not that there are no MoBo's that support it, its that SB CPU's have Dual Channel memory controlers, While the First generation i7's have triple Channel Memory controlers and SB-E will have Quad Channel memory controlers.
