Landing roll sliding problems

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Hi guys,

I need some advice... For the most part, I believe FSX is a pretty realistic sim, although there is one segment of the flight that still gets me most of the time. Throughout the past 5-6 years I've been practicing a lot a ladings, and now I manage to pull off a greaser most of the time. What really bothers me though, is what happens after the landing. This uncontrollable sliding or -in the case of the Staggerwing- ground looping on the landing roll is getting very annoying. I did try that sim1.dll tweak with the increased ground friction but I didn't see any real changes. Once the cross wind is stronger than 5 knots I usually end up sliding off the runway. Naturally the problem is more vivid with the taildraggers, but I also experienced it with the Justflight Viscount and some other trycicle gear models. I tried different values at the Torque and P-factor section of the Realism settings but no luck. Actually, out of frustration, I removed the Staggerwing as all those "perfect" flights ended with an embarrassing ground loop or in a silly position on the grass... Even if I use full rudder and aileron inputs....

Is there anything in aircraft.cfg that I could change to increase vertical stability on the ground?

Or is this actually realistic and the most challenging part of the landing is keeping the plane on the runway after touchdown? I've seen videos where you can clearly see the "rudder-work" but still, the plane goes in a somewhat straight line....

HELP!

Dan

Dan , have you tried the A2A Accufeel for the flight dynamics ?

Yes I have v1, I didn't like v2 due to the increased side forces that just made my situation worse...

I have been grizzling about that for quite a few years now - it was a problem in FS9 and if anything it is worse in FSX. Using the wind facilities in FSUIPC helps, but mainly because you can switch off winds below, say, 200'.
After a lot of fiddling in FS9, I came to the conclusion that someone had put in some sort of multiplier, to model ground effect, and that it was being applied to all surfaces, not just the wings and tailplane...I don't have the tech knowledge to prove it, but it made sense to me. I could hand-fly down the ILS, with a nice offset heading to stay on track, and then coming over the fence I would suddenly find I was about to land on the grass on the downwind side of the runway. sad.gif

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'
