Graphics cards for fsx

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

In your opinion what would be better for fsx, a nvida GTX 660 sc, or a ATI radeon 7870? I have already purchased the 660 but just wondering if a amd card is werth considering for an upgrade further down the line.

Thanks

The age old question, well, In my vast experience with Nvidia cards and a one off experience with a Raedon card IMHO I would go for the Nvidia card. From what I have heard the Raedon cards present an issue with Antiliaising but you may want to do some further research on this.

Remember that FSX/Prepar3d (ESP) in its current state performs well based mainly on CPU and of course tweaking depending on memory, hard drive read speed (for textures) and operating system (i.e XP, Vista, Win 7, and Win 8).

Anyway that's my little opinion but with the 660GTX you should find it will be able to handle FSX no problem.

Regards,

Kelvin

I must make a mission and stop at your place and check your system out .. Never touched anything but a Nvidia card , last century i played with the ATIs ... 'I' was all i said with the service back then , today they would be OK by peoples choice but i have since stuck with Intel/Nvidia ... Aye winkyy.gif

Hi Ian! sure thing, the system isn't built yet, still waiting on the motherboard I bought from Newegg in the U.S, which has been 'held for clearance' in NZAA for about 3 days , the motherboard is the last component I need so it shouldn't be too long now. tongue.gif Sounds like i should be fine with the 660 smile.gif
Ill upload some pics of the build process as soon as I begin.

Happy flying

It sure is!!! One of the crew offered to take a picture in the captain seat during the Christchurch Airport open day. All Air Training Corps members got a special tour after everyone left which made my day, otherwise i wouldn't have had this great the opportunity. smile.gif
