New Joystick?

Hey guys, my old joystick for fsx has crapped itself and and i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on a new one. my old one was a logiech extreme 3d pro and it was excellent but its time for a new one.

Id directly go to the CH product F-16/combat Stick , very durable and no fancy gimmicks , ideal for helicopter to airline and suited for your combat sim's both ground and air .

The old problem ... how much are you prepared to spend?

I have a Saitek X-52, but am not too impressed. I've played with friends' CH fightersticks and can confirm they're *good*.

I'm a big fan of the Microsoft sidewinder precision 2 joystick
- Nice and accurate and no jerkyness since it has optical tracking. There is one on trademe now for $49

My Logitech Extreme 3D serves me well. It's cheap, and reliable. I had some minor problems, but they were solved by installing an updated driver.

About the G940...it's actually cheaper than a full Saitek/CH set (with rudder pedals, and throttle quadrant included). It's $344 on pricespyat the moment. The cheapest Saitek set is still $510 on mightyape. My only problem with the G940 is that the force-feedback ads a lot of opportunities for a failure, and it needs a thirdparty software to make it work "properly" in FSX.

As luck would have it I just picked up a 'new' sidewinder for 6 Canadian dollars from the salvation army shop here in Vancouver doesn't look like it has been used.....its really hard to do scenery design without a joystick

I have to mention the Saitek pro flight yoke, which comes with a throttle-propellor-mixture unit as well. Although it feels plasticky, it is solid and fixes quite well to a table or desk. Easy to set up and calibrate too. Price is about $260. I will add their rudder pedals in time too.

I still have the MS Sidewinder force feedback 2 have had it for years did have 2 of them but gave one away should of hung onto it for when I wear this one out

I would strongly suggest the thrustmaster T flight joystick as i have one myself ad have found it very trustworthy and well suited as an all rounder for both flight sim be it the ms versions or x plane and all the others eg: hawx 1 & 2 and for $100 from your local harvey norman you will the added feature of the the throttle as a seprate addon very similar to the hotas topgun but cheaper and less buttons but you will find a hand resistance dial so you can adjust the joysticks movement .

I've had my Saitek Cyborg Evo Force for quite a few years now, and it suits me admirably for all my Aircraft types...with nice blue lights!.... ...!

It does have Force Feedback/Rumble, but it must first be enabled in the "Control Panel" (Joysticks), and also within the Simulator/Game.

My only slight moan. When the Sim is first loaded up, all the Joystick controls must first be rotated through their full range, to centralise the controls, otherwise the throttle may be a max....and the Aircraft (twist) may veer off the runway!... ...... ....!

Not bad for around £40 new!

Win 7..."Control Panel"...."Devices and Printers"...right click on Joystick..."Game Controller Settings"..."Properties"....

...and away you go!

Don't forget to enable Force Feedback in the Sim as well!

Actually, Connor...

Although my Joystick has Force Feedback, I always switch it off completely, as I just find it...extremely annoying!

Learn to live without it!... ...!

It seems that most "twist-type" Joysticks automatically come with Force Feedback/Rumble!

P.S. ..in a real Aircraft, most forces are felt through your Bum (G-Forces)...rather than just your hands!.... ...!
