Solid State Drive

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Well, so much for SSDs helping much. I got mine in tonight, and noticed zero difference in performance. I wonder if it's because the slightly older components in my rig are already doing as much as they are able, and the SSD simply isn't adding enough to make it worth while. * sigh * I've still got to add in my 64MB cache 1TB drive for the main drive, but seeing as how FSX draws it's data off the SSD, I'm not expecting any change with that either. It could also be that my video card - as good as it is for it's price range - is simply not able to spew the data onto the screen fast enough, so the SSD is not helping. I'm getting great FPS in most places (between 30 & 70), but WN is down to 11 & 13 in complex places, and on approach to Napier tonight I got down to 7 - still 20 miles out! Of course, I'm using the version of Napier that doesn't work properly with Accelerator, so I'm picking that the new Napier will solve that (whenever it comes out). But the short of it is that the SSD in my system did not make a difference. dry.gif

Must be just speed of loading for my system then. Mine must of been terrible before.

Think I need a new system smile.gif

Cheers

Yeah I've thought about Raptors a few times, but they are even more expensive that SSDs, so have not pursued that idea. I've got a client whose rig I built with Raptors, and in it's day (2 year's ago) it was a blinder for speed. Not sure how it would go with complex scenery, as the client insists on flying FSX in it's vanilla state only - weird. Does have all sliders maxed & all options ticked, but mine can do that too if I use no decent add-on airports & non-std FSX scenery...
