OK, I know that this is a real long shot as they haven't been released in NZ yet but I will give it a go just in case someone has imported one. Having a tester in the same timezone is probably going to be very useful.

I am working on an application for the ipad to replace the keyboard/mouse for all those controls, autopilot, nav, transponder, switches, etc, etc, etc. I am currently modeling a 737NG for the mcp, comms, nav etc as it will make the guys glying the big stuff feel at home and it's still usable for the GA guys, perhaps a few buttons that don't do anything on the smaller aircraft. In time I will model the controls for a smaller plane so that the option is there.

So, if you have an ipad and you are happy to use the software for flying/testing/suggestions then get in touch. The ipads will be released here in 1 1/2 months and I will probably still need a couple of longer term testers to take new features etc.

Thanks,
Jason

Heres a quick screen shot with a couple panels up and a quick youtube of the ipad hung over a monitor showing the autopilot synched with FSX.

Now that looks interesting , I don,t have the ipad but the touch screen concept is really nice to use as many of the machines in my industry use them . Would be ideal for fight sim and FMCs

I used to have a lot of the goflight gear. I spent around 2k on various units so that I didn't have to use the keyboard which made the whole experience a lot nicer.

The only issue for me was that it also took up a lot of space given where my set up was in the living areas. I also liked lots of different types of sims and the goflight was really aimed at GA aircraft so it wasn't reusable outside of FSX. I do like all the real lights and buttons surrounding me and thats something you don't get with the ipad.

My plan at this point is to model often used 737 panels as well as a smaller plane. Of course it's just looks as the buttons switches for each will control any standard and most payware aircraft. I bet a lot of people will just fly the cessna with the graphics from the 737, although some buttons on the mcp wont do anything. The benefit for me is the cost - a lot less for the ipad then my goflight gear and the smaller footprint and the multi use when I add functionality for the DCS series of flight sims and my favourite racing sims.

I really don't like using the keyboard when I am flying or racing smile.gif

Jason has to be one of NZs best builders of detailed home use flight sim and fighter plane cockpit components amonst other really cool things! Us kiwisimmers are in awe of his skills, if you have an ipad you will not regret being able to help out.

Splatman, posted using my iPod, the poor mans iPhone and the even poorer mans ipad!

Absolutely, and evidentally hes the only person on the planet capable of coming up with a use for the Worlds Most Pointless Device ™, aka the iPad...

Sorry - I'm an Apple hater. I can't help myself! biggrin.gif

I wont get drawn in to the ipad debate, again smile.gif All I can say is that it will do more for me than my 2k worth of go flight gear at a third of the price smile.gif

fair enough - like I said, at least you've got a real use for the thing! most who buy them don't... i'd bet they won't let you sell this on the app store though - given that its intended for use with MICROSOFT software. best of luck with your project though - i salute your ingenuity, and i really hope its a massive success for you... oh, btw, sent this from my NOT iphone...! tongue.gif

hi, would love to test this ... Been looking for this kind of app for a while now, whether iPad or laptops or open peak linux tablets.

been looking at various remote screen PFDs and NDs etc., with little luck .. But this is the business from what I have seen from the screenshot.

Add to that that I cannot afford a "real" MCP such as open cockpits or go flight.

Let me know how I can help ...

Thanks

I found another Ipad application which works in connection with FSX. You can follow the track of your flight on your iPad or iPhone device:

You didn't "find" that application,

you wrote it, rolleyes.gif

and you've been copy/pasting this link at EVERY FS forum you can find.

Usually, no one minds self promotion, just be honest about it. winkyy.gif

biggrin.gif No, you've been to all the ones I visit. winkyy.gif

I do think it's cool how you're getting an ipad to link up with a M$ application. I bet that really gets under Bill's skin. laugh.gif

I thought you should of said I had written it, not I found it. Tha to me ois one of two things.

1. You're not proud of your work and don't want to be associated, but want the sales.

or

2. Trying to hijack another thread with an advert, especially when you had also posted a link to it elsewhere in the forum (and as has been said before, everywhere else).

Anyways, to keep this on topic, I wonder if that would work on an ipod touch smile.gif Would love to have something like that on my touch. But sadly I mainly fly 9.

Wishing you the best with your application Jason.

Yes, the FSXFollow application is designed as an universal application. It means it works on iPhone, iPad and iTouch.

If you port it to Android let me know...

I would like to see what I could do with my shiny Samsung Galaxy S with it's lovely (albeit small) 4" AMOLED screen... now if only Samsung would hurry up with the Android 2.2 "Froyo" update!! tongue.gif

Back on track, directed at OP... that looks like a seriously cool app mate... I hope you find someone to help out... especially now that iPads are "officially" in the wild here in NZ
