I brought a Force feedback pro when they first come out for FS98. $700 back then from memory.
Man was it a fight to get and when I couldn't use it on the new computer, there was hell to pay.

Still have it in storage. Mint condition.

Anyone know if I can purchase a converter for USB? I have tried in the past (dick Smith) but it didn't work.

By golly, you committed one of the big ones there - a brand new expensive toy that sits in the cupboard! How many nights on the couch and cooked dinners did that cost you?

Had you considered buying a PCI card that has a Gameport on it? That would be your best bet, as those Gameport to USB connectors are really only for basic things. Just a thought.

Ah, the eternal hope of the simmer hard at work!

What about a new motherboard that will fit your old CPU, but an ATX one (presumably you have an mATX now?). It would involve a new case as well (unless your current case can take both mATX & ATX), but it would still be cheaper than a whole new PC.

I have a couple off USB/PCI adaptor plugs here , they come with recent hardware mobos and bits and pieces , is that sorta thing you require or you have tried them out .

Did you try Dick Smith cat XH8290? They have a support page with drivers and instructions, I had one that I used on an old joystick (but gave it away duh!) and from memory I had to allocate a USB socket as a serial port and select a baud rate etc.

Its tobad that microsoft flightsim has darnation force feedback realism. The feedback is about 2 seconds delay behind stick input however I have seen a 3rd party forcefeedback software that brings these controllers to life.

I tried the first force feedback in 1998 , sorta was,nt happy with it - wait till you try it in combat sim .. really walk away with a sweat ! phew

ah, but it is even worse, you need one yoke for the 737 AND one yoke for general aviation, so the damage is doubly bad. Add to that the cost of a new computer to run it all and a share in a real aircraft looks cheaper!

After having a number of simple Joysticks for my older, 1980's Spectrum, Commodore, Amstrad, and Amiga, etc, computer games, my first PC Joystick was my Microsoft Force Feed back Pro, cost me £100 in 1998 for Flight Unlimited II, Pro Pilot 2, Gunship, etc, and died a couple of years ago, internal fault, (still got it)....
....and the first thing I did...and still do..is to disable the force-feedback effect.... ... !

I find the effect extremely annoying......!
The ground "bump sensation" in the Aircraft should be felt by your Bum...not your hands... ...!

I find I have to purchase the "Force-feedback" type of joystick just to obtain the; "Twist action" for the Aircraft; "Rudder" control!

The Joystick Force Feedback effect I can well manage without... ...!

For me, a Flight Yoke, (if I required one), without Force-Feedback would be perfectly acceptable.

Yep - I've sold a couple of those. They're pretty good, if a little fiddly to setup and get just right. Anyone here have one of these? If yes, how do you rate it?
