G'day NZFF cool.gif

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack 3
4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

Intel Pentium 4 540, 3200 MHz
Gigabyte GA-8IPE775 Pro (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE (128 MB)

ST3160023A (160 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)

LG Flatron ez T710BH [17" CRT] (1413317949)

..........but thats the machine , not me. I am just an aviation nut. I was kinda bought up round hairyplanes and people who worked with hairyplanes.

Riccarton High , with Harvards next door was where I " did my time " . Ian and I seem to have been there at the same time ! ( and I do remember Ian ! )

I just stroll along doing repaints ,, and running RWY12 , and going crosseyed at poly benders who run 3D modelling. I dont think I am a great pilot, but I sure enjoy my sim. As you can see, its STEAM POWERED by this old P4 ( I have a coal scuttle beside the desk ) , and I get occasional boiler blow offs , or run short on oil , but HEY, it does an OK job most of the time. I have published a Harvard repaint ( downloaded 2500 times ! ....flush my cisterns ! )
and a V807 repaint , and done an AIR file for the 797 that was released recently. I kinda have a version of Waimate International Airport up ( with sheep , and a Vespa ......thanks Heath ! ) , but am trying to turn it to a full Ag strip ( which it kinda is ) , with some Ag AI included. I have just gotten my head round compiling AI FPs.....which is gonna help out the Viscount Fleet that I SHOULD be publishing in a few weeks ( yes I WILL post a link guys ! thumbup1.gif )

Errrrr.......I tried to post a few pics......but it didnt LIKE ME, so it told me to go away......so then I created an album, and tried to upload, and it STILL DOESNT LIKE ME . I may have a size issue, but I did 640 x 800 them ! Thats too big ??? I will go away and try smaller....But I was wondering if there is a posting restriction for newbies like me ? I have seen this before in Gardening Forums. Until I had made 25 posts , I couldnt upload a pic ! sad.gif
I even made an album at that place .....and tried bunging the IMG link in.......I can post ANYWHERE else.......but not here ! And thats not a biggie guys, I am just.....u no......ermm.....puzzled.....anyhow , I posted a link ( that works ) on my profile if ya wanna check out the AI BRE ( with full fleet coming )

I would love to upgrade someday, but it will be a year or so away I fear, as I dont have vast amounts of $$$ right now. ( I own a house, which strangely, is why I am quite poor $$$ wise ).

And its just FS9 right now. I have Harvards parked up at Ardmore , I have P3's at Whenuapai , I have AMY getting outta NZAS on a regular basis, Christians great 75M mesh , everything Robin Corn has made as freeware , ALL of Lawries great airports, Pete Lohrs cool Mt Cook with cars ( u cunning invisible taxiways person ! ....still trying to suss the FP that enables....sheesh ) , and Ians great NZCH and NZWG. A full VOZ pack with AI , some bits by Charl , and a MAAM DC3. In fact, I have basically thrown every piece of freeware that I can lay my grubby mits on at the machine, and even a few pieces of payware ( if they were not too eggs pensive )
I get stutter going in and outta Seed Knee , and a few other Big Bmp places. Copes OK with Wellytown ( full pack ) .....

ANYHOW, sorry bout the rave, ....MANY THANKS for the welcome, hope I can contribute some small things to the FANTASTIC work that Kiwi developers have done. Errr.......one more odd thing.....there is a VOZ .......any plans for a VINZ ???? I askk , because I would like to see Christian and Robin sell a LOT MORE payware, and I was wondering if a freeware version of Virtual New Zealand might help ? Would VOZ allow the use of their package ???
VINZ should be much smaller than VOZ, and hey, their AI comes across to NZ , so they shouldnt mind . I think Christians sign at NZWN is great, and there should be about 20 more signs JUST LIKE IT for RBE and Windowlight ( Robins site ? ) and even NZFF and a few other associated orgs .

Thats me. plane.gif Thanks again thumbup1.gif

Hi Andy

I can't answer the question, but can offer my "welcome along". I laughed out loud at the description of your PC - references to the steam, boiler & scuttle were classic! My Dad is a steam enthusiast, so a little of that has rubbed off onto me (I'm not into trains in a big way, but they certainly are interesting pieces of hardware, especially the ones that use coal!).

You could actually up your horsepower on your beast for a fairly modest outlay - take it up to 2GB of RAM, swap out the 128MB card & put in a good 256MB (or 512MB if you can find one - much harder for AGP): the only thing that might creak & groan a bit would be the power supply if it's not at least a 400W (that's a 400W 'true', not a 350W that peaks at 400W). You should be able to do all that - even with the power supply - for around $200 - $250, and you wouldn't have to reinstall Windows or learn Windows 7!

Anyway, just some thoughts and, again, welcome! thumbup1.gif

Peter

Hey Andy, welcome to nzff. Excellent into by the way, a shame more people dont take the time to do them, nice work thumbup1.gif
Keep us posted on the Waimate scenery, sounds like fun, my bro lives in Waimate so would be great to do a virtual tour down there

Oh, and re image uploads, this isnt turned on at the moment, you're best bet is to upload them to a free photo sharing site and add an image link to them there. They'll show up in the forum here but will be hosted there. Rob is looking at uploads I think, mentioned in the post following...

Many thanks guys. Yeah....I kinda over did the intro mebbe. I am a newbie here, but .....not really a sim newbie . The ideas and stuff came mostly from yakking with US developers, and the odd Kiwi / Aussie who drive for Tasman VA......and it sorta got all carried away. I will keep doing what I am doing , and have the links for y'all real soon .

Like Ian, I blame Luft Stalag Riccarton , and Reichs Marshal Ernie ( who was actually a pretty good teacher when he wasnt terrorising inmates ! )

Copy on the " images turned off " ! Kinda figured it must be summink like that. Thx

Islandboy : Also thanks for upgrade info. This is a much better path for me than forking out for a new machine. I will talk to the techs in Timaru !
I think I can afford that this year mebbe . Cheers for that sir ! plane.gif ( <<<=== sorry, i love this one......had to use it )
Yeah, I ran mainframes for a few years. We always used to talk about them as if they were steam boilers. LOLOLOL. I still do.

I will trundle across to the VOZ forum at some stage soon and ask if they feel the VINZ thingy might be on the cards. I know a few " permissions " would be required, but hey, if I bang my head on the wall enough, it just might happen ! ( and if it doesnt , I'll just take two asprin )

Cheers all, and thanks everyone smile.gif Andy
