Calling all Rotorheads

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby H500Fan » Wed Nov 03, 2010 6:41 am

Hey guys, just wanting some info and to get a general idea what the rotorheads do on their flight sim. I'm finding the A to B flights between major airfields a little boring and the missions offered on FSX not exactly exciting. Is there anywhere I can download missions specific to NZ? and is it posible to actually carry loads (underslung) and do what choppers do in NZ rather than just a corporate taxi. I would be interested in flying to back country huts but they don't exactly exist on FSX.
Oh and do you guys fly online? If so what do you do?
cheers in advance!

Jamie , we fly very regular online with all sorts of themes . You want to get yourself a desktop mic , install 'TS3' teamspeak 3 and away we go , most all flying is done in the weekends at a moments notice .

Yes to long line ,it is possible to attach a long line and custom made objects in a mission or a set flight to any helicopter in the sim ,Ive made some logs and logging trucks etc for this ,like always i haven't found the time to get them out there yet .

if for any chance you can get or have the deluxe flightsimX with sdks it mite be a good idea to get your head around object placement tool,were you can then set up your own landing areas and scenerys out of the default library objects ,random pad here and there and a super launch offshore is always a good start ,there is also VLC which i think will have those doc huts in the future ? or does have those doc huts ,"unsure"
Wellington by realnz has the dock and hospital landing pads in photoreal, and Auckland supercity has 4 plus the one at Waiheke Island ,there Rotorua real nz with the waterfront pad ,kiwi 360 by timmo ,i know there are more ..

I use to fly multiplayer all the time joining others with fix wing ,9 time outta ten the guys would all swap there planes for rotorwing and we would do things like going up mount cook ,formation flying which is pretty hard in rotors ,bush valley races and point to point flying to airports and pads etc ,its really what you can make of it ,there are no set missions or ranks to complete after the ones you have done already ,so its more about imagination ,be tending your are something you are not and enjoying the little things like being able to fly in the best matchbox car city you could ever build as a kid but with rotors ,i have a little advantage weres i make what i want in the sim ,though there is nothing stopping you doing the same ..
good luck with your adventures, joining the guys on nzff teamspeak would be a good idea if you are wanting to do MP flights ..

Yep VLC has all the doc huts placed around the country (and if a clearing exists around the hut, then it should be there in VLC too)

If you have Alphasim's seasprite you can add theese lines to the SH-2's aircraft.cfg which will give you a working hoist cable to use with missions..

[Sling.0]
hoist_extend_rate = 5 //Feet per second
hoist_retract_rate = -5 //Feet per second
position = 3.8, 6.05, 1.1 (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum
max_stretch = 2.0 //Max stretch distance at ultimate load
damping_ratio = 0.6 //0 for no damping to 1.0 for critically damped.
rated_load = 600 //Characteristics tension of cable in pounds
ultimate_load = 2250 //Breaking force in pounds
tolerance_angle=45 //Angle, in degrees, used to determine lateral breaking force limit
auto_pickup_range = 12 //Max Range, in feet, for auto-pickup
auto_pickup_max_speed = 12.5 //Maximum speed (feet per second) for auto-pickup
hoist_payload_station = 4 //Payload station in which the hoist will load in and out of. 1 is first station.
hoist_door=2 //Door associated with hoist. Must be open for use.

thanks for the replies guys, I do have FSX deluxe installed and also VLC so will investigate that avenue.
What helis do you have at your disposal? I downloaded the nemeth bros MD500e but was a little disapointed. I have been over the hovercontrol website but would rather deal with guys in NZ, especially for multi player events because they would fit in time wise with me.
will get onto downloading teamspeak and go from there
cheers

I have the Milviz/nemeth 500 and the UH1 , course other choppers CH-53 both Nemeth and Alpha , recommend the 'N' brand so much cheaper for better quality , its best you come online with TS and have a chat with all , everyone is so helpful .

You can get Bambi bucket addons over at HC. Also you could place some fire/flame objects into your scenery. Simulating fire fighting.

I also recreate my real world flights into the mountain areas on hunting/SAR trips. As Tim has suggested use the DOC huts as a basis.

As Mike has said helo's really come into play for bush flying.

I use FS9 but the theory is still the same.

Using a scenery object placement tool makes creating your own scenarios pretty much endless. Only limited really by your imagination.
Testers are born to fiddle. What does this button do? Oh! Never mind.....

Hey Jamie and others, great to see some rotor talk, not anywhere enough of it here clapping.gif

I spend lots of time flying choppers offline, H500 mostly, especially when just poking about in new scenery or areas to familiarise myself, and like Bandit I also buzz bush routes I've walked or fished in the past which is great fun.

I've flown the odd VFR flight online on VATSIM but choppers are a rare thing there unfortunately so am really looking forward to getting into some multiplay w Ian and co. I've been scoping out a tasty bush route in the north Island, takes about 40-mins, have a bit of a scenario in mind involving Hueys in a multiplay if anyones keen to explore some VLC one weekend?

Dodosim 206 is the No1 chopper. No other have this realism, but at hovercontrol.com is a tool names HTR (helicopter total realism), that makes other helos realistic.

I have heard of the HTR program, will master the FSX settings then might look into that. I agree the 206 is hard to beat, haven't compared alot with it yet though.
Definitely keen to catch up on MP, could organise a chopper convoy somewhere!
Anyway I'm gonna head into the Tararua ranges now and see how many huts appear where I know they should be.
cheers guys
