HI guys,

Im working on making a digital version of the Aviation Charts and I was wondering if anyone
had them in Digital format like pdf that they could send me,
my idea is to make a digital version on my Iphone and Ipad, would be quite cool for while on FSX,
Current maps would be preferred

Got the latest Vector magazine today and the VNC charts are now available for online purchase on DVD in pdf format or as map files for various moving map navigation systems.

http://www.maptrax.com.au/p/1188627/nz-avi...--complete.html

Just be careful, if you start digitizing and distributing the charts your liable to be had for breaching copyright and also the safety issue that only CAA approved organisations can produce aviation publications.

I know its just for flight sim purposes but if your using real world material then the distinction becomes very narrow.

If you buy a set of current VNC charts from Airways then scan them for your own personal use, that would be fine, I do that for my own VFR real world flying as its easier to have the bits you need for your route of flight rather than
trying to fold huge maps in a little Pitts cockpit!

But be careful when discussing obtaining charts like this though, your best bet is to hope some kind soul will send you their uncurrent charts then you can do with them as you wish, for personal flight sim use only of course.

hi thanks for the reply, i know the copyright issues etc with the maps,
im not looking at doing something i can distribute or sell or anything like that,
this is just purely for my own use for practicing in flight sim, hence the latest maps would be best,
thanks for the link ill check that out, otherwise i may have to resort to scanning my own maps haha

I think older maps, around when FSX came out will work better. There have been a lot of decommissioned NDBs around, and changes in airspace that will be different if you are using current maps.

So you already have your own maps then?

I digitised the boundaries (which, to my knowledge aren't liable to copyright....just like digitising a road isn't) and these can be seen on the NZFF scenery map (see the pinned topics in the scenery forum)- Unfortunately, both the scenery areas and the map haven't been updated since I did them in about 2009 so some small changes to the boundaries will need to be made.

For VLC I've spent a bit of time putting together a 3D mashup of data using the Google Earth browser plugin to display VLC images compared to the same position in Google earth- For the Scenery/Airspace NZFF map, I'd always intended to give this a 3D option too but never quite figured it out.....I should have a bit more time soon since I'm officially a 'bum'
