Two popular ORBX sub forums have been closed down after someone posted unflattering satiric cartoons and comments about the CEO.

The forums - "Hardware Tech and Talk" and "Help Me With My PC" were used by many as a convenient method of offering or requesting information on how to keep their FSX/FTX installations running smoothly.

There had over a period been an accumulation of valuable advice which will now be sorely missed, and no doubt many contributers will be disappointed by the sudden inaccessibility of this archive.

I can not see the need to close a forum because some one person abuses the privilege of posting, but it was pointed out that the main aim of the ORBX Forum is to provide support for FTX products, which is still available, so this incident may have presented an opportunity to change the perceived focus of the forum.

For me personally the main ORBX forum has now lost a lot of interest, but it was pointed out in no uncertain terms that the Forum belongs to ORBX.and will be run as they see fit.

Maybe it is a bit old school for me to think that the paying customers are actually a vital part of ORBX and should be given some input into how the forum is managed.

This seems to me like a huge overreaction. I agree that the forum at Orbx will lose a lot of appeal now and I hope that Orbx reconsider their decision. True, the purpose of their forums is to support their products, but part of that included technical advice, and the Hardware forum was a part of this. As usual, it is the actions of a few that spoil things for the majority, I read the reasons for their decision on the Orbx forum, and it reads like one person took some personal insults too seriously. By all means ban an abusive member, but to penalize all the other forum members just because of a few people is unfair.

But there is an opportunity there - we can now welcome even more simmers here and advise them that the NZFF technical sub-forum is still very much up and running.

Definitely a bad decision by Orbx, and one that I hope they will reconsider.

smooth landings.

Yep, the opportunity beckons - the more IT whizzes the better, particularly on a friendly forum with no vested interest.

I'm in the process of fitting a PCI-E SSD to my system, but had to DOA the first after the manufacturer asked me to try it in another system, which I then built using a new motherboard (apparently they don't work on some boards, but this SSD was cactus anyhow, so now I have a spare SOTA mobo - ah well), so am awaiting a replacement with fingers crossed. I enjoy flying the sim in NZ, particularly low and slow in the hills.

I build my own PCs so have a fair bit of knowledge about them.
It was a shame they closed the forum, but as mentioned, now myself and others can help out here instead smile.gif

Hi Dean,

Thanks mate, by the look of your sig it must be you who sends me the odd piece of software, like the new mesh for America N & S (not to forget Hawaii) with which I'm still playing around: and the you beaut Lancaster!!

I build my own PC's as well, and really enjoy fiddling around with them, but over time I've accumulated all this spare stuff, which I think I might use to assemble yet another system, but how do you play two sims at once?

It will have my spare Evga SLI mobo with an i7 920 cooled by a Thermalright or Zigmatek, two GTX460's and a Corsair 650W modular PSU and W7 OS, a 128GB SSD, all of which are sitting in a cupboard at present, but I will have to get a case, memory and a storage HDD, but I might put in a 150Gb WD Raptor which may be spare if the Ibis I'm waiting for works OK. sleep.gif
