See the cathedral is broken this time...very shallow quake, lots of services damage, power is probably out in many areas.
Hope the guys are alright.

I'm just watching the first news pictures coming through here in England. So sad to see one of my favourite cities repeatedly affected like this.

Good wishes to all in Christchurch. Hope everyone's safe.

What a terrible setback for everyone there. I'm sure we all feel for them.

Its carnage this time. Really bad and upsetting to watch on TV. My thoughts are with those NZFF members who are going through this. We still have family down there whom we cannot contact as well.

Because most of the city is without power I doubt many if any Christchurch people will be online.

Power is off to 80% of the city at the moment (I'm in a communications companies "operations room" in Hamilton) so I have visiblity...

Communications are ok but power is a problem.
Several buildings are "gone" including major damage to the TVNZ building. Water is flowing down Tuam St. Unfortunately bodies are being pulled out of some buildings and buses.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

My thoughts go out to all our Christchurch based members. Really hope you guys are ok.

Apparently all NZ airspace has been shut down but havn't seen any earthquake related NOTAM's on IFIS- Think the Airways NZ building has been evacuated so there would be no one there to update it.

Not much happening at NZAA either at this time.

Things are pretty hairy here in Lyttelton -- almost constant shakes at the moment. I walked down to the main street earlier to see if anyone needed to be dug out, and the damage is just devastating. From the news it sounds like central Chch is a mess, it really breaks my heart that all those people already went through it once, and now it's even worse.

Glad to hear you are ok Rob. Been watching telly most of the afternoon and the city is a real mess. Lots of buildings down, and many which will need demolishing. Far, far worse than the original quake.

Good to hear you're ok Rob.

It's after 4.00am here and I just haven't felt able to go to bed yet with this story unfolding. It's very shocking to watch, even more so than last time. The situation looks terrible there. BBC News are running TV3 feeds and have a correspondent in Sydney (!) so it's difficult to get detailed information. They've carried phone calls from a few TVNZ journalists but I gather their local operation is down as well. UK coverage said the epicentre was actually in Lyttleton, is that right?

Hope everyone comes through it ok.
