080949NZST Unable to connect to either Flightsim or Avsim this morning. Get the "unable connect" message. All other internet sites I use I can connect to. Anyone else having this problem?

No connection problems here...
But AVSIM certainly made an interesting call, to break their site so soon after it had been fixed, post-hack.
The library search is all but unusable, and I can't download anything from the new additions section.

My uploads go to flightsim.com for the foreseeable future.

I don't like the new Avsim format at all. Just scrolling through the "What's New" section is too 'eye-boggling' - you have to look hard for the title of the item, (whereas they've highlighted the category headings).

Maybe I'm just getting old....so will now make FlightSim Com my first port-of-call for flight-sim needs because the format is familiar and easy to read.

The old site was certainly showing its age, and nothing wrong with a complete makeover which is apparently what they've tried to do, but the new design is a total train-wreck (ok, plane-crash) from top to bottom.

I've been tending to drift away from avsim even since before the crash last year, something that put me off the way its managed is I actually donated $10us to the site upkeep a couple of years back and never heard boo from them, I mean I didn't donate for the acknowledgement but hell it wouldn't have hurt.

Anyway, good luck to them, there's a substantial community in the forums besides the file sharing so I hope they get someone on board with some design/usability skills and re-re-launch the site this year as there's nothing wrong with a little diversity thumbup1.gif

It would be a shame if Avsim lost supporters because of this, they did a good job of building the site back up after their big crash, but it shows how easily a site like this can be affected by changes, unintentional or planned. That's the reason why NZFF doesn't continually update the way the forum works -- there's a fine line between keeping up with technology and keeping the site stable and usable.
Avsim do seem to be listening to complaints, and they have made some minor changes to the way things work, especially the file library, but we'll have to see how far they will go -- it would take a lot of work to build the ultimate download site, and the UI is the main stumbling block.

In the meantime, they have increased the file size limit to 500MB, so I've re-uploaded Takitimu, which hasn't had a home for some time. I'll pop a link online when it shows up. Uploading was a bit of a maze, I did try a number of times yesterday, but thanks to some user posts about functionality, it has been tweaked so that it now works for me.

Avsim have reverted back to their previous site until they can get some issues ironed out.

Don't know how this will affect Takitimu, that poor little scenery is destined never to find a home....

I quite like Avsim... but I don't like their new site design. Seems difficult to navigate.

..if Avsim are listening...

I really hope that they decide to leave the site in its old, familiar style...

(The new? style was unbelievably confusing!).

Looks like they listened!

Good on them for reverting to the familiar while they work through the issues. I hope they sort it.
