DoC Huts?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby ZK-LGD » Sat Dec 24, 2011 9:41 am

Just a quick question: are DoC huts in the Mt. Cook region and Te Anau-Manapouri-Fiordland areas accurately modeled/situated in either (i) VLC and/or (ii) Orbx's NZSI? If users of either FSX scenery could please let me know, I would be most appreciative. Thank you.
Regards,
Dorian

As I don't use FSX, I wouldn't know. biggrin.gif

Sometime in the (near) future, I hope to have a rig capable of running FSX. As the majority of my VA flying assignments are in the Mt Cook-Te Anau-Manapouri-Fiordland area, the placement of non-standard airport sceneries (DoC Huts, Lighthouses, local points of interest such as the Otago Retreat Storehouse or Lodges) is vitally important and will help decide which add on I will eventually purchase.

Just to drag up an old inquiry.

Dorian yes so far they are there. I have found a few now

The Tititea Outdoor Education Centre, East Matukituki Valley that Dunstan High School use for Outdoor Education. I know this is not DOC but it is shown.

This hut in the pic is at Mason Bay, Stewart Island

2 more Lake Monowai, A Frame and normal hut type. Not going to post any further it has been a 100% hit so far. 12 locations huts exactly as plotted.

I would say at a guess they would all be present and accounted for. I am mapping them to a RXP GNS rom so when finished I will post the file.

Thanks for the heads up Pete and Timbo; very much appreciated.

@ Ian: Within the Fiordland area alone there are 115+ DoC Huts, at least half of these are easily accessible by floatplane/amphibian. Have visited more than 20 huts during my tramping days in the area (and, more recently, honeymooned at the L. Hauroko hut).
