Someone at Avsim modified the "Sim1.dll" and the result is apparently a marked increase in ground movement realism.

This is a modified version of SP2 FSX's sim1.dll, that has alternative parameters in its ground friction table.

- sliding coefficient raised, saw no ill side effects like in fs9, like the shudder on start of roll.
- steering much more direct, great no more skid on normal taxi speeds.
- keeping runway centerline much better
- rolling friction lowered, little breakaway power needed, then taxi on idle, depending on weight of course
- much more difference on dry versus wet versus snowy runways and taxiways, as it should be.
- needed to adjust the brake value a bit in the aircraft cfg to compensate the lower friction. Easy.

Tests were with Cessna, DC3 and L749 and B737 at this moment.

AI doesn't seem to bother by the effects.

Direct link to the download page. I have FSX + Acceleration so I downloaded the "Patcher" program (third link in yellow chart) which does everything for you (including creation of a backup):

This dose sound interesting ... nothing worst than taxing in and the aircraft sliding on it nose gear ... but also have the trust shake as you starting roll as you throttle up , have a play with this in the afternoon . smile.gif

Seems to work well on the paved runways, but not too well on grass or dirt! Won't even move the 206 under full power.

Tarmac with the 737 seemed to be steady , following your test Ben be worth a go with a CS C130 on the grass .

Thanks for the info - bookmarked for a rainy day!

This sounds interesting... does this mean no more skidding uncontrollably after touching down during a crosswind landing?

I've been testing this for some time now, and it works fine with some aircraft (like the Carenado Caravan). However some developers created their add-ons with their own method of "counter-acting" the default FSX ground friction already, so using this altered sim1.dll changes the characteristics of those add-ons in a very unrealistic way...
