NZFF

Hi everyone

I am reasonably new to nzff and some of the fsx nz senery available but have recently taken a shine to updating my flight sim to simulate a more realistic New Zealand, after all this is my country and so I figure I should be focusing on nz rather than over seas.

I have been flying in fsx and more recently (last 3 years) on a multiplayer server in the U.S. as much as I love the realism and professionalism of thier operation, recently I have begun to think about whats available for NZ flight simmers that may want to be able to fly on a server that doesnt nessesearily require you to fly for an airline or use a third party addon to track your flight such as VATSIM but allows you to "connect directly" and just fly amoungst other like minded pilots and air traffic controllers.

Air new zealand virtual and virtual air new zealand are good for simulating our flagship airline but what about the ga pilot that wants to fly amoungst them or the quantas pilot that wants to fly trans tasman from sydney to auckland while immersed in an environment real enough to force that annoying go around because the cessna 152 in front is still on the runway.

Personally I dont want to sign up to a group that limits me to only flying for an airline yet I do want to fly in a multiplayer environment in NZ...

What is everyone elses thoughts on this?

For FS 2002, FS 2004, and FSX!

I/we use them every day for my/our Multiplayer flights!

"FS Host Spy" will list all the Servers available, their IP addresses, and who is on line!

INSpire 203.114.130.15 used to be the regular NZ Server, still operational, but doesn't appear in the FS Host list lately!

Im referring to a dedicated community such as the very popular "bostonvirtualatc" and I think anubody who has joined thier community would understand what im getting at.

Simple answer is ... there just aren't enuff people flying down under to get anywhere near the need for something like BostonVirtual or PilotEdge
As Paul says I think you're best bet is to use a freeware multi-player host and establish a community, hell we could host a dedicate forum here if need be?

Do you know about the VATPAC regular GA nights on VATSIM? It sounds like fun, is all visual and self regulated to a fair degree I think coz they tend to fly in remote areas, also sometimes fly around over here in NZ.

That answers that question then and many thanks for your responces I think its always good to talk about this sort of thing as it may become viable in the future.

However, it does bring me to another point of topic... does anyone in NZ run or has anyone thought of running a lan party? And would it be doable?

Jeeze for a minute there I thought you said Ian party, not LAN party, that sounds scary .. LOL

A Lan party sounds like a cool idea, are you thinking actual get-togethers, ie bring along your sim? Could be a little tricky to move all that hardware? What might work as a comprimise would be some kind of video conferencing thing going on, like a Google hangout video session, while you're simming from home, that way you'd get the feel that your in the same location.

AFAIK there's never been a big flight sim LAN gathering here in NZ like they do in Europe (not heard of any in the US or aussie)

An Ian party why Thankyou very much , it is very doable we could even base it and around an airport of your choice , and to make it easy have one in the control tower , have the peoples join but we set , we have a dedicated NZFF TS channel .. have to make sure everyone is on the same footing .ie : same scenery levels and the same aircraft at least .

I'd love an NZ-GA dedicated multi-player place to fly.
Though I have just started a Round-the-World trip in an RV-7A since I installed ORBX FTX Global. That'll keep me busy for a long time yet, given how little time I actually get to use the sim.
RE: a LAN party; there is absolutely no way at all of my extracting all my gear from my cockpit!

It would be great to host a LAN party in a venue and have everyone in the same room and for most people I think it would be possible however for those that cannot easily bring thier own sim we could and should hold a connect direct LAN party using connect direct or something.

Im having so many ideas now we would have to host many events to accomodate them all...

I have just got orbx-ftx nzni and nzsi + real nz nelson/vlc as well as vector land class and after having a quick fly around at a few places I cant wait to jump into a multiplayer environment and fly through nz with others

Well it great you covered the bases , you really only needed either the ORBX products or VLC most stick to one or the other , . As for the Multiplay get yourself onto TeamSpeak TS3 .. very simple to install , have a desktop mic or headphones and mic for your comm's ..... grab a plane , anything but default .... those make ya YAWN real quick , not sure your fave but there are plenty of great freeware addons and away you go .. give us a nudge , you be up and running in 2 minutes .

Thanks Ian, i've been flying in multiplayer servers for that last three years, its only recently that i have discovered NZ's community and decided that this is where i belong and am more familiar with especially when it comes to air space.

as for teamspeak, ive always prefered using radio with in fsx to communicate, this is so much more real and allows for multiple controller frequencies to be used and i use the P11 headset within my sim.

I am glad that you pointed out my scenery add on frenzie, i did seem to just grab as much as i could NZ related, i might have to re evaluate since NZPP has decided to go pear shaped... the elevation has gone crook since ORBX NZNI was installed.


Just a thought, does direct connect still work on a casual basis, as in no actual server required? I havent tried since gamespy stopped.

Everyone has issues with elevations regarding ORBX .. It requires removing a few files but even then cause some hi-cups across the board ... I might have a look at creating flattens but currently have a little on me plate at the mo .

We had a good setup , even had the actual tower guys and we used TS simply it was clearer once you had a few online .. course with Gamespy gone its all LAN .. course that dose require the IP for the flight .

Hmmmm... Ian your filling my head with ideas...

I am sure that you would have a lot on your plate however scenery corrections and FTX compatible updates would not go a miss, cant wait to see what gets developed though (i am disapointed that i have lost some of my good realsitic scenery with ORBX).

If this is Robs RealNZparaparaumu you have installed,
Try going to your FSX ORBX Folder FST_NZNI_05_SCENERY change all the ADE_FTX_NZNI_NZPP.BGL to ADE_FTX_NZNI_NZPP.off also the other two NZPP files CVX and Objects to off

I'm pretty sure that although that will work fine for single play when you go to a multi play environment with others using Orbx without these "fixes" you will find that some aircraft will be buried in the runway while others will appear floating above the runway depending on which option each pilot has chosen. Best to stick to all Orbx if you expect overseas pilots to fly with us. At least that's my opinion for what it's worth.

I agree with you there Greg so really you need to disable your RealNZparaparaumu in your scenery library and just use your ORBX NZNI if you are going to do multi play from there.

I'll just stay up and down on the subject .. comes down to who uses VLC or OBRX .. and it really is a bummer when in a MP were one is up and the other down ..... funny as pointed out the ORBX being a special very hi res mesh .. we all no better .. i personal do like the ORBX product because of the realistic tree line but like VLC for is accurate mesh ... RealNZ'd Wellington and Nelson work with both so that is a step in the right direction .. ...

People cannot be bothered taken this out .. put this in ... real plane guys fly on true ALT .. but for many it is having it look the part ... realistic ... Orbz should have follow with API keeping the true alt but also with current designers or works in progress !

i'm confused now, should i uninstall VLC and RealNZ Paraparaumu or do i need to re configure the above files?

P.s. i have disabled the Real NZ WGTN and NZPP scenery since installing ORBX... + found sinking issues with Woodburn

So confusing IT IS .. levels up and down like a YOYO , think what required is flattens made for specific areas ... for the people where this can get outta hand ... fact is MAKE those up and bring everyone back on the same level !

so Ian, in my case, what would you recomend in order to correct this?
