Hi all,

Well...never thought I'd say it but I am really close to cehcking out P3D 2.0. A few q's though:

- Do ALL FTX sceneries work with it (I have NZSI, NI, Global and the Nth American ones, so want to know if they are compatible)?
- Is performance generally better than FSX and if so, why?
- Will my PMDG 737NGX work with it?
- Anyone flown in NZ with it yet? What is the default scenery like?

Cheers
SB

Not all, Global is first (next week) then others as it happens.

It's a lot smoother for me, But I haven't put any addons on yet.

The same as FSX default, the data hasn't changed.

I have been using it for a few days and can probably answer your questions.

The only ORBX scenery that works to date is FTX Global (Download the new installer). All their products are being updated over the next 12 months. NZNI and SI are next. There is a pinned post over on the ORBX forums showing the schedule.

Performance is streets ahead of FSX and V1.4 but you need a good video card (DX11). My HD5850 struggles so I have turned off the option which places more load on the video card. I get really good performance, but dont get some of the nice eye candy.

PMDG have just announced that they will start supporting P3D, but currently without work arounds they wont work.

Ive flown in NZ mostly with it, still the old textures that look terrible, waiting to put my ORBX back on. Apparently some overseas textures have been improved.

I will never go back to FSX or 1.4 this is streets ahead in so many ways.

Here you go, my maxed out GTX 780 and boy does it seem to drop down some gears when the settings are cranked up to the max. Get no less than 30FPS just have turned off some receiving shadows on buildings but even with them on it still seems heaps smoother than FSX would ever do.

look at all that default autogen...

Yeah the draw distance is m iles further out than FSX, for those with mid level systems like me, bringing back the autogen levels closer to what you had running in FSX should give you a good experience. The Guy at AirdailyX has just posted a video with a GTX 660 and an older quad unclocked and seems to still be getting better than expected results. I'll be definately be making the change, just need the PC running unitll next week then the hard drives will be wiped for a fresh install of everything.

Seems that REX runs ok, just repoint the P3D Install folder and cfg in the initial setup and hey presto. (just going of what I have read)

Although I have several ORBX regions and ORBX Global, I will not make the jump until NZ is updated with the new installer; I fly 80%+ in NZ.
That, and some of the other add-ons such as REX / Accu-Sim, etc. Not bothered about planes: they will either work, or I'll drop them and fly others.
Hopefully my laptop can handle P3Dv2 to at least the same level of eye-candy as I currently get in FSX.
When I move, I'll re-build my laptop from scratch and only have P3Dv2 on there, no FSX at all, and I don't want to mess around with 'work-arounds' and non-native installers.
Might limit my choices a little, but too bad.

Head over to airdailyx and there is new tutorial on how to get fsx/p3d1.4 installers working with v2. There will still be certain textures and such that don't seem to display properly but these issues don't seem to be the same for everyone. I'd say don't wait, go for it, I will be next week. NZ NI and SI at the top of the list to be patched so you won't have to wait long, and remember the performance increase we all saw with orbx scenery over default textures.....we might see a similar increase as the default NZ textures are still the same.

I tried the airdailyx method today with NI and got some pretty odd results, - around Auckland, white buildings, then no buildings, - trees in water. Might just be a matter of tweaking scenery priorities or settings but I didn't have these problems with FSX. Hopefully they'll be resolved by the P3D2 patch.
