Question about FS2 Crew MJC8Q400?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Timmy74 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 1:08 pm

Hello Chaps,

I have been thinking of getting the "FS2 Crew" package for the Majestic Software Q400 and was wondering (for those whom have it) is it a good purchase? I would really like to sink my teeth into the Q400 and thought that this piece of kit would help out a little with flying her?

Any insight/tips/pro's and con's would be to the utmost advantage.

Thank you kindly.

You don't have as much to do with FS2Crew though. I always enjoy being flustered and overwhelmed with having to perform the captains and first officers tasks.

Its a brilliant piece of software, I don't even buy a/c anymore that don't have an FS2Crew addon.

FS2Crew has come a long way from the early days of button control.

I have been involved with most of the releases, some Beta testing but mainly on the manuals.

To me, as inferred above, it greatly cuts down on the learning curve and lets you actually enjoy flights more in my opinion.

Sing out if there's any specific questions you need answered

cheers Dave

Hello Dave,

Thank you so much for your insight. You are truly the best man to "ear bash" then if you fully recommend and are a beta tester of this product. My biggest question is how does it work? Are there multiple questions to answer -like FSX ATC- or are there specific guidelines you have to follow?? I read somewhere that you have to ask the absolute correct wording question (still do not know how? Maybe through a mic or something???), or the co-pilot/crew member does not understand you? So I guess I would like to know how does it all really work? Do I need a head set with microphone etc, etc....?

So many questions....

Kind regards.

Hi Tim,

Where to start?

All FS2 crew addons follow a fairly similar formula.

You start with a 'preflight' mode where the 1st officer does all the pre start a/c requirements.

During this time usually 30 minutes, you set usually under take the functions of programming the FMC, getting the auto pilot configured, setting trim and usually starting the APU or requesting ground power.

During preflight the cabin crew or ground may contact you re boarding, fuel etc

At the completion of the pre start process you run the pre - start checklist

This continues for the rest of the flight, your voice commands activate the F/O to start new flows and then there is usually a check list to finish.

This covers engine start, taxi, take off, after takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, landing , shut down etc.

Once you have done a couple of flights it all comes naturally and if you can't remember the correct response just say 'check' which is the universal cheat.

I don't find any problem with the voice engine understanding me, Australians , even myself have provided voices. Maybe if you are from khazakstan there maybe an issue. :-)

The turbo prop versions are more complex than the jets, so a great starting point is the airbus x or pmdg 737 ng, the q400 is my favourite though so I do recommend.

It just seemlessly seems to work, it's hard to explain on an I-pad at mid night

Just ask if you need any assistance

Cheers Dave

Sorry Tim,

Forgot, the most basic of USB headsets with mic are fine, I always use to use a Logitech g35, which I have just replaced with an astro for music purposes, you can have the Logitech for a few bucks if you want btw.

Personally I prefer slightly better headsets than the minimum as they make the whole experience more immersive.

So effectively FS2 Crew is like the co-pilot of the Airbus Extended on steroids? Sounds like something worth looking into...

I am probably biased, but I could not get the same enjoyment flying a commercial aircraft in FSX without FS2Crew nowdays.

The airbus x version is great, pity Bryan doesn't offer a demo, I must mention that to him

Cheers Dave

Ps there are some good demos on YouTube using fs2crew, I will try and find the links tomorrow

Hey Timmy,
I use FS2Crew for the q400, j41 and NGX. Highly recommend all of them.
Some might say it simplifies flying the aircraft but I think it gives much more immersion in a multicrew cockpit.
Hit me up on TS sometime if you want to know more.
Cheers

If you want to learn more about FS2Crew, your best bet is to do a YouTube search for FS2Crew videos.

There are hundreds of them.

Thank you to you all that have given me some great feed back. Especially Dave -I may bombard you with questions when I get it? I hope that is OK?

I have made the decision to go ahead and purchase FS2 Crew for the Q400. Let the fun begin!

@ Trev I will take you up on that offer when I get it and you can coach me.

Again thank you and Kind regards,
Tim...

Ah, I'm guessing that this is a cameo appearance from the developer himself
