Which OS W7Pro or W8.1

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Ether » Thu Jan 29, 2015 8:09 am

Dear All,

I'm planning on returning to the flight sim world after being away from 5+ years.

Want to play FSX + more recent sims.

Going to build new pc arround a i7-4790K+GTX980+16g/32g RAM (+SSD etc)

Which OS should I install realistically, W7 Pro or W8.1 ?

Any other tips ? Which NZ scenery is the current pick? What MESH etc ?

Money isnt really an issue but quiet build is.

Ether.

I'm still with Win7 but many here find no issues with Win8

The base packages , choice is either ORBX NI and SI or the NZ - VLC, you may want to read through the forums on recommendations and check out screens, there is a lot of new freeware photo-real and you have great quality payware from Rob at http://windowlight.co.nz/godzoneWP/ ... both payware and freeware cover vast areas.

Ian's summed it up nicely, I've went from win7 to 8.1 without problems, the only issues really related to getting FSX working on x64. I know that 8.1 has a bit of a bad rep, but I've found it the most stable version, from win7 to 8 to 8.1 things have only been getting more stable and issue-free.

And yes, don't forget to click on Ian's link:)

One thing that should be pointed out is Orbx New Zealand can be problematic due to elevation issues not following New Zealand's AIP putting the VLC ahead as far as accuracy is concerned , Orbx is the prettier and almost double in price.
