Jumped in the tardis and went back to 2004

I have spent the most wonderful wet Sunday afternoon, back in (FS) 2004.

After reading all the news from the HJG guys, I went and redownloaded 90% of their stuff.

I'm in the process of adding whatever is available for 2004 , weather and scenery wise, and then add the new aircraft.

So nice to have a fast load, great frame rates. I spent a good hour or 3 just doing circuits in the Rick Piper 748 (still the best one out there) along with some of that amazing stuff from Alphasim, from that era.

Because the "V" wasn't an option then, I will download screen hunter again, so I can post shots.

I will contact Charl for info on really optimizing this ..... I didn't know I missed it so much.

FS9/2004 really rockets on these, today's PC's , like you have many FS9 stuff we can get re-introduced to but it would be interesting to see today's quality of scenery go back .. realistically it would blow many peoples early PC's into pocket rockets.

My PC's are old but still can hold there own against the latest but to run backwards 12 to 15 years it would be very interesting to see what could be done with the quality of today's photos ... simply I doubt if anyone can get access to a new copy of FS2004 .

Not so much about age , or speed I think.
Going back to what was on offer then , so much great freeware , and the payware had been thought out ... not like today.

Biggest thing Marty is the quality that comes out today, it is very Very dynamic in every area and much is outside the base program, the geometry of the models have really come into there own, good example is wing flex, the first company FS/2002 payware was the "Ready for Pushback" 747 , today is ready available from flightsim.com .

Another good example of seeing how far things have developed is the Microsoft base DC-3 edited and redone by Manfred Jahn and his team then the other team led by Jan Visser, so that gives a better example of the quality from the original.

My original FS 2004 Icon still graces my Desktop, together with my FSX Icon....

...and my FS 2002!....

...even my FS '98.... :o ...!

Always interesting to run them now and again, to see the difference... ...!

The thing I miss most in my FS 2004, is the "moving traffic", which is used in FSX to bring the scenery to life!... ....!

Loads and loads of free stuff for FS 2004, and it runs like a dream on modern computers!

The King is dead...Long live the King...

...a bit like the Sinclair Spectrum 48K, and the Commodore C64.... :D ...(which I still run!).... ....!

Paul...I like Old Stuff!....(Reminds me of Me and Doug!).... .... ....!

Bloody ell still brand new packages out there ! all the stuff that your CD won't work due to age is a load dribble, my FS9 installs perfectly even after 15 years ... it is funny to see people most notable 'Andre Lederer FS-98' still painting and designing on that Simulation B-) ..

I burned a DVD which I labelled 'FS9 A-I-O'. It is an all-in-one disc for reinstalling FS9. It has backup copies of all four CDs, the 9.1 update, and the NoCD thing. My original CD4 was getting a bit temperamental.

I think it also depends who gets their grubby mitt's on the CD/DVDs , good example is my brother kids, one for example was atrocious for looking after any thing and its the "I know what I'm doing attitude" .. KIDS .. no wonder I didn't want em ..
